Piece is a destination for travellers who want to make mining history and heritage-protected buildings key considerations when choosing where to visit. Local points of interest include the historic shaft of the “Cila” mine, the former Cecylia ventilation shaft complex, two roadside chapels, and former educational buildings. A salt graduation tower and a recreation area add further dimensions to the built heritage. For those looking for a holiday apartment, this variety offers several points of interest: mining, heritage conservation, brine, and the new uses of a historic building.
Mining Heritage and Its Classification
The historic shaft of the “Cila” mine anchors Piece’s mining heritage. Another landmark is the mine’s headgear building and winding tower, which are protected both in the heritage register and on the heritage list. The shaft and the headgear building with winding tower refer to distinct structures within this theme.
Another point of interest is the former Cecylia ventilation shaft complex. Part of this protected complex lies in Piece; its main section is in the district of Czernica. It is listed in the heritage register under number A/1328/84. The ventilation shaft complex thus adds a point of interest that connects Piece and Czernica to the mining heritage.
Chapels and Former Educational Buildings
The two protected roadside chapels can be distinguished by their locations. One stands next to the building at Rydułtowska 40 and is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk; the other is next to the building at Rydułtowska 6. The protected former primary school also stands on Rydułtowska Street.
The historic former kindergarten building has undergone a different transformation: it was extensively modernised, given new functions, and officially opened on 11 March 2026. The opening featured a monodrama by Dr Jan Krajczok, performed by Małgorzata Krajczok; an author talk with Dr Norbert Niestolik was also held. This allows two chapters of the area’s history to be distinguished: the school is notable for its former educational role, while the former kindergarten is notable for its modernisation and new functions.
Recreation Area and Salt Graduation Tower
A recreation area on Rydułtowska Street, behind building no. 21, adds a leisure element to the built heritage. In July 2017, it was one of the stops intended for a cycling route through the municipality of Gaszowice. If planning a specific trip, check the area’s current condition, as the project dates back to 2017.
The salt graduation tower in Piece was officially opened on 23 May. At the opening, it was described as a tourist attraction; it was also intended to provide a place where people could benefit from the health effects of brine. This adds a distinct connection to brine to the mining and heritage themes.
