Bełk can be explored through two distinct highlights: historic wooden architecture with specific details about its furnishings, and several named educational, hiking and cycling routes. There is also a historic cemetery, a stone sculpture and a landscape connection that includes parts of the Sołectwo. For planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between the individual cultural sites and the routes, which have different details regarding starting point, length or course. This way, you can first decide whether architectural and cultural history or the routes should be the focus of your stay.

Wooden church and historic landmarks

The parish church pw. św. Marii Magdaleny is an 18th-century wooden church built in 1753 in the folk style. It is listed in both the register of monuments and the inventory of monuments. The early Baroque main altar dates from 1610; the organ is more than 200 years old. This brings together different periods: the altar predates the church, while the old organ represents another historical aspect of its furnishings. If you are interested in wooden architecture, you can consider the building style, folk style and different furnishings separately.

A group of old trees grows in Bełk’s historic cemetery, including a pedunculate oak protected as a natural monument. Bełk is also home to the “Boża Męka” stone sculpture, dating from 1878. Alongside the wooden church, the cemetery trees and a dated stone monument represent different facets of local cultural heritage. If you are looking for more than one kind of historic landmark when choosing where to visit, you can consider these features together with the church.

Educational trail and hiking routes

The “Śladami Belka” educational trail starts in the centre of the village and is a signposted route of approximately 2.5 km. One of its stops is “Górka Lukasów”, a hill dating from 1866. The starting point, approximate length and named stop provide practical guidance if you would like to include a local themed trail in your plans. Another option is the yellow-marked “Szlak Historii Górnictwa Górnośląskiego” hiking trail, which passes through Bełk. You can distinguish between an educational trail that starts in the village centre and has its own stop, and a yellow-marked hiking trail through the village.

Cycling routes and landscape

Two cycling routes run through the Sołectwo of Bełk: Route No. 2 and Route No. 291. Route No. 291 runs from Ornontowice via Dębieńsko Wielkie and Bełk to Palowice and Woszczyce. It is also a blue cycling route that passes near the wooden church built in 1753. If you want to identify routes by a sequence of place names, Route No. 291 provides clear guidance; if you are particularly interested in wooden architecture, you can also take its proximity to the church into account. The Rybnicka Loop of the Wooden Architecture Trail (“Pętla Rybnicka”) also runs through the Sołectwo of Bełk and is connected to the Wooden Architecture Trail.

The landscape connection includes the “Cysterskie Kompozycje Krajobrazowe Rud Wielkich” Landscape Park: the western and southern parts of the Sołectwo of Bełk are within this park. This extends the picture beyond individual cultural sites and routes and applies to the specified parts. Together with the pedunculate oak protected as a natural monument, this shows how nature in Bełk is represented both by a specific group of trees and by parts of the Sołectwo belonging to a landscape park.
