Jastrzębie Zdrój offers several distinct ways to explore the city: Park Zdrojowy, the history of the spa town, coal and urban history, as well as nature and cycling. Those who focus on parks and landscapes will find different points of interest from those interested in the spa town’s history or the coal exhibition.

Park Zdrojowy and the gorge landscape

Park Zdrojowy covers about 18 hectares and is one of the city’s most important recreational areas. Its size makes it a destination in its own right when exploring Jastrzębie Zdrój. In the lower part of the park, known as Dolina Mikołaja, lush vegetation and numerous paths between the slopes of a gorge define the area. The park paths and gorge landscape give this section a different character from the exhibitions on the city’s history. If you want to plan your trip around green spaces and landscapes, the park is one of the main points of reference.

Spa town history and coal at Carbonarium

The permanent exhibition “Jastrzębie-Zdrój – Perła uzdrowisk śląskich” presents the history of the spa town. Its exhibits include a marble bathtub from 1862. The Galeria Historii Miasta offers free museum lessons covering all permanent and temporary exhibitions. It also holds open-air events about the history of the Jastrzębie region, including “Przystanek PRL-u” and “Piknik w kurorcie”. If you have a particular event in mind, check the dates in advance.

Carbonarium offers a different focus: this four-storey, interactive and multimedia permanent exhibition is devoted to coal. Its scope ranges from the formation of the resource in the stars to its present-day use as an energy resource; mining and the city’s history are also among its topics. This brings two distinct cultural and historical perspectives together: the history of the spa town, represented by a specific historical object, and the broad history of coal.

Nature and cycling route

The Jastrzębski Szlak Przyrodniczy “Śladami Natury” highlights the city’s natural features. The meanders of the Szotkówka are considered the city’s most valuable feature of inanimate nature. Another point of reference is the Żelazny Szlak Rowerowy: the first section of its Jastrzębie segment runs through Dolina Szotkówki. Except where the route crosses public roads, it is closed to all traffic other than bicycles. When planning, note the difference between the many paths in the lower part of the park and the route, which is explicitly restricted to bicycle traffic.

Summer events at Ośrodek Wypoczynku Niedzielnego

Ośrodek Wypoczynku Niedzielnego adds an events and leisure dimension to the cultural and landscape attractions. Its amphitheatre hosts numerous summer cultural and sporting events. The centre also has a water playground and a graduation tower. Summer events and two different leisure facilities are the main attractions here. If you want to plan your trip around a particular event, check its date.
