Königsdorff-Jastrzemb reveals a blend of nature and industrial heritage. Green spaces with distinctive plant and animal life, a cross-border cycling loop, a museum dedicated to coal and summer leisure activities offer different perspectives on the place. Rather than one main attraction, there are several discoveries to enjoy side by side: landscapes and biodiversity as well as the industrial history of Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
Nature between park paths and river meanders
The Jastrzębski Szlak Przyrodniczy “Śladami Natury” is not a single signposted route, but a collection of green spaces with distinctive plant and animal life. You can explore them individually using existing roads and paths. This makes the nature trail an offering of several green areas rather than a fixed route.
One specific landscape is the lower part of Park Zdrojowy, known as Dolina Mikołaja. This area is lushly vegetated, with numerous paths winding between the slopes of a ravine. Unlike the collection of different green spaces, this is a named part of a park, where the paths between the ravine slopes define the character of the terrain.
The meanders of the Szotkówka are another defining natural feature. They are considered the most valuable element of inanimate nature in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The river is a regionally significant refuge for fish and is one of the refuges in the Olza catchment area. European beavers (Castor fiber) and otters (Lutra lutra) have also been recorded there. Las Ruptawiec, meanwhile, provides a refuge for numerous protected bird species. These include the common buzzard (Buteo buteo), which nests in one of the pine trees. The river and the forest therefore offer different highlights: the meanders and fish life here, protected birds there.
A cycling loop in the border region
The Żelazny Szlak Rowerowy offers a different scale. The 54-kilometre circular route lies in the Polish-Czech border region and passes through Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Godów, Zebrzydowice, Karviná and Piotrowice bei Karviná. The 54 kilometres refer to the entire loop, not just the section through Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The cycling route is easy to ride and is also suitable for road bikes and bicycle trailers.
When choosing between the nature trail and the cycling loop, their format is the main consideration: the Jastrzębski Szlak Przyrodniczy brings together several green spaces that you can explore individually using existing roads and paths; the Żelazny Szlak Rowerowy is described as a 54-kilometre loop. This lets you choose based on the kind of experience you want, without treating the two offerings as equivalent tours.
Coal at the heart of the Carbonarium
The Carbonarium adds a cultural perspective on Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The four-storey museum explores coal, its industrial use and its role in the city’s history. Its focus therefore links a raw material with its use and the local past. Nature and industrial history are two distinct, independent themes to discover here.
Water, play and beach volleyball
Kąpielisko Zdrój features a swimming and leisure pool with water attractions such as bubbling steps, floor and wall massages, a water hedgehog, a current channel and a winding slide. The complex also has a children’s pool and two beach volleyball courts. A playground with slides, swings and other attractions adds to the facilities.
In summer, Kąpielisko Zdrój regularly hosts the Jastrzębie-Zdrój Grand Prix in beach volleyball and the regional beach volleyball championships of the Silesian cities. The facility’s opening schedule may vary by season, and event dates may change. Before planning a visit, check the latest information on opening times and dates.
