Those considering Stara Dabrowa K Slupska for a stay will find a clearly defined cultural and historical theme here: the history of the place and traces of historic cemeteries. The place was first mentioned in chronicles from 1304 to 1309. Its historic German name is Alt Damerow. At the burial sites, history is also made tangible through details about their area, location, and surviving grave markers.

Local history between Alt Damerow and Słupsk

During the Prussian period, Stara Dąbrowa was one of 18 royal villages under the administration of the office in Słupsk (Stolp). This adds a later administrative connection to the early mention in the chronicles. Two different aspects are therefore important for understanding the place: its mention in chronicles between 1304 and 1309 and its belonging to a larger administrative district during the Prussian period. The name Alt Damerow provides another historical connection.

Two cemeteries, two specific location descriptions

Cemetery No. 1 lies 485 m northwest of the place, on the right-hand side of the forest track to Zagórzyczka. Cemetery No. 2 is also northwest, on the left-hand side of the track to Zagórzyczka. From No. 1, it lies approximately 90 m to the northeast. The descriptions distinguish the two numbered sites both by which side of the track they are on and by their locations relative to each other; the distance between them is explicitly approximate.

Cemetery No. 1 covers 1,976 m². Oak trees and an earthen embankment mark its boundaries. Surviving features include a granite boulder and a granite plinth with part of a cast-iron cross. The area, boundaries, and grave markers offer different clues for distinguishing this cemetery from No. 2: here, these include the oak trees and earthen embankment, as well as the stone and iron elements.

Cemetery No. 2 covers more than 1,400 m²; a children's section was located in its northern part. Surviving features there include a concrete cross, two openwork crosses, a concrete gravestone for a child, and eight concrete outlines of children's graves. The described remains therefore include crosses, grave markers, and outlines; the historical reference to the children's section adds another layer to the history of the place alongside these visible forms.

Area details and remembrance

A forestry overview based on the forest condition as of January 1, 2021, lists former German Protestant cemeteries in forest compartments 589l, 634f, and 701g, with areas of 0.14, 0.51, and 0.16 hectares. A former German cemetery in disrepair, covering 0.21 hectares, is listed for compartment 705a. These details record the respective forest compartments, areas, and the condition described; they refer to the forest condition on that date.

Employees of ZGK Damnica had marked the burial sites with plaques commemorating the resting places of the deceased. A municipal notice dated October 30, 2023, recorded this marking. As the physical condition of the plaques may change, check whether they are still there before visiting.

A planned walking and cycling connection

A municipal project description dated June 9, 2023, stated that the 5 km road between Zagórzyczki and Stara Dąbrowa was also intended to serve as a walking and cycling route. The wording describes its planned function. If you are planning to travel the route on foot or by bicycle today, check in advance whether it is currently usable.
