Plan your trip to Polnica around three specific themes: Gostudno Lake, about a kilometre from the village; two cycling routes through Polnica; and the historic churches. At the lake, the facilities along the shore and the route there are worth considering; the cycling routes differ mainly in their length and course. The churches offer a cultural focus through their construction dates, altars, paintings and other features.

Gostudno Lake: shoreline and access

Gostudno Lake covers 46.38 hectares and is fed by the Czerwonka. It is about a kilometre from Polnica. The best way to reach it is via unpaved roads from Polnica or Polniczka. As road conditions may change, check their condition before your visit. The distance and the nature of the access route are two separate points to consider when planning.

There is a car park, a beach, a bathing pier and a recreation area on the eastern shore. This provides several different places to visit by the water, from the car park to the beach and bathing pier. The lake’s area and tributaries provide a specific context for the nature theme, while the facilities on the eastern shore are important when planning a visit.

Two cycling routes through Polnica

County Człuchów cycling route No. 5, “Chrobotkowa,” is 20.3 kilometres long and passes through Przechlewo, Imielno, Płaszczyca, Polnica and Człuchów. Route No. 9, “Niedzielna,” is 36.8 kilometres long and runs from Człuchów through Polnica, Czarnoszyce, Charzykowy, Nieżywięć and Krzyżanki, before returning to Człuchów. Comparing their lengths, “Niedzielna” is 16.5 kilometres longer. Check the current signage and surface conditions for this route.

Churches and their features

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Polnica was built in 1780–1781 and is the oldest surviving church in the Człuchów municipality. Inside is an 18th-century altar with sculptures of Saint Joseph and Saint John of Nepomuk. Wall paintings depicting King David and Saint Stanislaus the Bishop remain on the nave vault. Other features include 18th-century Rococo furnishings and a pulpit supported by an angel figure.

The former Protestant Church of St. Joseph in Polnica was built in 1912. Its single-nave interior is richly decorated with paintings and has two galleries. The two churches offer different historical perspectives: the Church of the Holy Trinity stands out for its altar, wall paintings and Rococo furnishings, while St. Joseph’s is notable for its single-nave space, paintings and galleries. Polnica’s cultural character thus encompasses both architectural history and specific details of the interiors.
