The wooden branch church of St. Mary Magdalene dates back to 1748. In Zimna Wódka, sacred architecture, cycling routes and a Corpus Christi custom come together. This gives you several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: the church’s furnishings, the routes of cycling paths Nos. 161 and 16, and the tradition of flower carpets, maintained for more than a hundred years. A memorial site in the parish cemetery adds remembrance of Silesian insurgents to these themes.
Church and Chapel
The church is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene and is built of wood. Its furnishings include a Baroque high altar and late Baroque side altars with sculptures and a relief of the Holy Trinity. The high altar and side altars provide distinct features within the church’s furnishings. A relief differs from a sculpture in how it is made: the subject is shown in three-dimensional form on a flat surface. The furnishings therefore include several specific forms of religious art.
The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk is also a point of interest in its own right for anyone interested in culture. It dates from the first half of the 19th century, while the wooden branch church dates back to 1748. This comparison makes two different building periods in the village tangible: a structure from the 18th century and a chapel from the 19th century.
Cycling Routes with Different Itineraries
Cycling route No. 161 connects Droga Starostrzelecka with the wooden church in Zimna Wódka. Cycling route No. 16 runs from Rudziniec via Wydzierów and Niezdrowice to Ujazd, then along the paved Droga Starostrzelecka to Zimna Wódka, and afterwards on an asphalt road via Olszowa to Czarnocin. The two numbers therefore refer to different routes: No. 161 connects the road with the church, while No. 16 continues beyond Zimna Wódka to Czarnocin. This distinction can help you choose your route, whether you want to include the church as a destination or prefer a route that continues through the listed villages.
Corpus Christi and Remembrance
In Zimna Wódka, the tradition of making flower carpets for Corpus Christi processions has been maintained for more than a hundred years. The custom is included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. If you would like to plan your visit around this tradition, time it for Corpus Christi and check the date for the year you wish to visit. Unlike the buildings, this cultural highlight is tied to the date of Corpus Christi.
A communal grave of two unknown Silesian insurgents is located in the parish cemetery in Zimna Wódka. The memorial site adds a distinct connection to Silesian history alongside the religious buildings.
