Ujest lies on the Kłodnica and the Gliwice Canal. Both waterways provide a clear geographical reference for the town. Its historic character includes a variety of buildings: a medieval castle, a Baroque parish church and an 18th-century commercial building. A yellow-marked cycling route also runs through the town. Those choosing Ujest for an exploratory trip will find a mix of a waterside setting, a regional cycling route and historic sights in the town centre. The Kłodnica is a river, while the Gliwice Canal is a canal; the two waterways therefore differ in both type and name.

Cycling Route and Regional Orientation

The yellow-marked Cycling Route No. 16 runs through Ujest, with historic sights in the town centre along its route. In regional terms, a cycling route runs through the town from the Silesian Voivodeship into the Opole region. This makes it possible to consider the cycling route and the historic buildings in the centre together. Check the current conditions on Cycling Route No. 16 before setting out.

Castle Ruins with Views of the Surroundings

The medieval castle of the Bishops of Wrocław was built at the beginning of the 13th century. The ruins offer panoramic views of the surrounding area. They were secured a few years ago and opened to visitors; check current access arrangements before your visit.

Church and Granary

The parish church of St. Andrew the Apostle is Baroque and was built in 1613. Its Neo-Gothic towers were added in the 19th century. The building therefore reflects two distinct historical periods: the construction of the church in the early 17th century and the later addition of the towers. Its Baroque classification and Neo-Gothic details belong to different periods of construction.

Near the market square stands a three-storey granary, a masonry and plastered commercial building dating from the 18th century. It is currently used for storage. Compared with the parish church, it served a different purpose: here, a commercial building stands alongside the religious building as another part of the town’s history. Its 18th-century date falls between the construction of the church in 1613 and the addition of the towers in the 19th century.

Studzionka in the Associated Municipality

Studzionka is located in the associated municipality. Its pilgrimage church is a Neo-Gothic building with a tower on the west side. Studzionka is also home to a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary above the Marian spring. Compared with the parish church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Ujest, different features stand out: in Ujest, the Baroque church with Neo-Gothic towers added later; in Studzionka, the Neo-Gothic pilgrimage church and the chapel above the spring.
