Stubendorf (Izbicko) combines historic church art with parkland and cycling opportunities. St. John the Baptist Church, the 11-hectare park of Pałac w Izbicku, and routes for walks and bike rides each offer a different focus. When planning, you can therefore choose between local history, time in green surroundings and cycling.

Church and Local History

St. John the Baptist Church in Izbicko features Neo-Gothic altars, old oil paintings and a polychrome wooden crucifix dating from the mid-18th century. Polychrome means decorated in multiple colours and describes the crucifix’s finish. A historic statue of St. John of Nepomuk also stands by the cemetery wall near the church.

Until 2019, the primary school in Izbicko had organised the Voivodeship Storytelling Competition “Śląskie Beranie” for more than 25 years. Sacred art, a historic statue and a long-standing cultural tradition thus offer distinct points of interest.

Park and Landscape

The park of Pałac w Izbicku covers 11 hectares. Old trees are designated natural monuments, and there are also rare shrub species. A pond with a wooden footbridge lies at its centre. The park also has a large covered seating area with benches, tables and a barbecue area.

The park provides space for outdoor events, family picnics and relaxation during longer cycling excursions. It thus combines designated natural features with facilities for spending time outdoors.

On Foot and by Bike

The many woodland tracks and paths, as well as the revitalised area by the pond in Izbicko, are suitable for family outings on foot and by bicycle. An old oak grove also grows near the local complex of fishponds by Izbicko. Both the park and the surrounding landscape near the pond complex are therefore among the area’s features.

For geographical orientation, Izbicko lies on the main route between Opole and Strzelce Opolskie. Two route details are relevant to cyclists: Cycling Route 52, “Szlakiem sanktuariów,” passes through Izbicko and crosses National Road 94 there at a signal-controlled intersection. Cycling Route 1, “Opole–Izbicko–Opole,” is 47.2 kilometres long. For Route 52, its passage through the town and the intersection provide points of reference; for Route 1, its length is a concrete guide for planning your ride.

Sightseeing and Accommodation

Pałac w Izbicku is privately owned and currently operates as a hotel. Interior visits are reserved for hotel guests; you can view the building from the outside.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Stubendorf, you can decide in advance what you want to focus on during your stay: historic church art and local history, or the park, paths and cycling.
