Several different themes come together in Zawadzkie: cycling, knowledge about forests, architectural history and a distinctive plant life. The local attractions range from a cycling route with named stops to old residential buildings and natural features. When planning your trip, it helps to choose a focus: a route to cycle, information along a forest nature trail, or the history of individual buildings and places.

Cycling route and canoe landing stage

The black cycling route No. 166 runs from Świerkle via Zawadzkie to Kąty and is 9 kilometres long. Its route passes Leśniczówka Świerkle, Zawadzkie (Huta), the railway station, the allotment gardens and the Zawadzkie Forest District office. This gives you several named points for orientation, in addition to the route’s length. Check the local signage before setting off.

The canoe landing stage in Zawadzkie offers another activity. It is connected to a rest area where you can camp, light a fire safely and find shelter in the rain. If you plan to make use of these facilities, check in advance whether access and amenities are currently available.

Architectural history in specific places

The hunting lodge was built in 1856; the Evangelical church in Zawadzkie dates from 1893. The residential buildings also provide clues to different periods of construction. Workers’ houses from the 19th century stand on Miarki, Waryńskiego and Zielona streets. Several more houses dating from 1900 can be found on Dworcowa Street.

A workers’ settlement is located on Andrzeja Street. It dates from around 1900 and includes, among other buildings, a wooden house from the late 19th century. The approximate date applies to the settlement; the wooden house is dated more precisely. For anyone interested in the Silesian Heritage Chamber: it is located in the general secondary school in Zawadzkie. Check access in advance if you are planning a visit.

Forest, trees and the HĂĽttenteich pond

The oak avenue is notable for the trunk circumferences of its pedunculate oaks, which range from 220 to 550 centimetres. At the HĂĽttenteich pond, historical significance meets a distinctive plant life. It is home to plant species and plant communities that are rare both regionally and across the country.

The Zawadzkie Forest District’s nature trail lies at the edge of the forest, near the Forest District office. It is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and forms a loop. Along the forest path, information boards describe the animals and plants of the surrounding forests, as well as forestry. The trail therefore combines a manageable distance with specific topics to read about and explore.

Two different types of route

The difference is clear when choosing between cycling and forest-related activities: cycling route No. 166 covers 9 kilometres and has several named stops; the nature trail is an approximately 1.5-kilometre loop with information boards. The routes are not interchangeable, but appeal to different interests. If you are mainly looking for a route with stops, you can follow the cycling route. If you would like to learn more about forest nature and forestry, the nature trail covers these topics. The historic houses, Heritage Chamber, oak avenue and HĂĽttenteich pond each offer a distinct focus for anyone who wants to take a closer look at architecture or nature.
