A memorial to 22 murdered Poles, church art and a public mural provide tangible cultural points of interest in Buraków. Walking routes also lead to destinations in the surrounding area.

Memorial Sites and Church Art

A memorial in Buraków commemorates 22 Poles who were murdered by the Nazis between 1939 and 1942. The church in Buraków has plaques commemorating the heroes of the Miracle on the Vistula and the murdered residents of Buraków. The plaques add further commemorative connections to the town alongside the memorial.

The main altar of the church in Buraków features the marble sculpture Pani Jazłowiecka by Oskar Sosnowski; it is one of five sculptures by the artist. The Church of Blessed Marcelina Darowska in Buraków houses a charred wooden figure of Saint John of Nepomuk. Its history has been connected to the surrounding area for more than 150 years. Sculpture and historical remembrance are therefore both tangible cultural themes of the town. One difference lies in the materials: the sculpture is made of marble, while the figure of Saint John of Nepomuk is made of charred wood.

Art in the Streets and at the Square

The public mural “HAFCIARKA” by artist Dorota Berger was unveiled on 17 October 2022 in an alley between 11 Listopada and Przyłuskiego streets. A street exhibition on the history of the neighbourhood offers another way to learn about local history. As the exhibition may change, check on site what is currently on display.

A memorial stone and a sundial stand at Skwer Niepodległości in Buraków. In 2022, Skwer Niepodległości in Buraków also had a recreation and leisure area. Check the square’s current facilities before your visit.

Walks in the Surrounding Area

The municipal walking route begins in Buraków with a visit to the Church of Blessed Marcelina Darowska. The municipal tourism guide also lists a second walking route, “From Buraków to the Palace in Młociny.” This gives you a specific starting point for a walk and a named route leading to the Palace in Młociny.

In the surrounding area, a walking route leads to a wooden viewing platform overlooking a pond that sometimes dries up. The changing water level is part of what to expect at this destination: the pond may be dry when you visit. Another walk leads to Park Młociny, where there is a sunny children’s playground with wooden play equipment, benches and a fire pit. As the facilities may change, check the park’s current amenities before your visit.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to weigh up a simple choice: is your stay mainly about Buraków’s cultural sites, or would you also like to plan walks in the surrounding area?
