The municipality of Crossen an der Oder is located in the Lubusz Voivodeship and Krosno County, in the Middle Oder Valley on the Oder and at the mouth of the Bóbr. Several different highlights can help you plan your trip: historic sites in Krosno Odrzańskie, paths through forests and landscapes, or a kayaking route on the Oder. You can decide what kind of excursion you want to shape your stay before looking for a hotel.

The Oder Valley and protected landscapes

Krosno Odrzańskie is described as the main centre of the Middle Oder Valley. The surrounding landscape includes bends in the Oder and numerous oxbow lakes. Forests cover 52 percent of the municipality, making them a prominent feature of the landscape.

In the eastern part of the municipality, Gryżyński Landscape Park covers 342.6 hectares. It protects the glacial trough of the Gryżyński Potok. Also in the east is the Rynna Gryżyny Natura 2000 site (PLH 080067), near Szklarka Radnicka. The two protected areas offer different points of reference for exploring the region: the landscape park with its trough, and the Natura 2000 site with its designated area. Before visiting the landscape park, check the park administration’s current information on boundaries and conservation management.

Piast Castle, the church and cultural events

The Piast Castle in Krosno Odrzańskie stands on the site of the residence of Henry the Bearded from the early 13th century and is considered one of the valuable castles in the Lubusz Voivodeship. St. Jadwiga’s Church preserves historic furnishings from several centuries, including a Baroque organ case, a Neo-Gothic baptismal font, a painting from the early 20th century and a bell dating from 1710. There are also furnishings and tomb monuments from the 16th to the 19th centuries. If you plan to visit the church, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Cultural highlights include Noc Muzeów and Festiwal Jadwigensis, which is considered one of the city’s major cultural events. If you want to plan your travel dates around one of these events, check the current events calendar and the dates of the relevant edition in advance.

Compare routes by distance and activity

The shorter of the two circular routes described here is the red Szlak Przeszłości, a 15.4-kilometre trail from Krosno Odrzańskie via Bielów, Lake Gnilec, Lake Glibiel, Łochowice and Kamień, returning to Krosno Odrzańskie. The black forest trail, the PTTK Szlak Leśny, is a 33.5-kilometre loop via Bielów, Czetowice, Budachów, Bytnica, Struga and Łochowice. This makes it easy to compare the two walking routes by distance. Check the current trail markings before setting out.

Another option is the 14-kilometre red Nordic walking route. It connects Krosno Odrzańskie with the Piast Castle, Marcinowice and Osiecznica, and returns to Krosno Odrzańskie. Check the current route markings before setting out. A 65-kilometre cycling route runs from Krosno Odrzańskie via Bytnica, Gryżyna, Grabin and Radnica and back. Check the waymarking and surfaces before your ride.

The Nadodrzański Trail runs from Krosno Odrzańskie via Połupin, Ciemnice, Laski Odrzańskie, Nietków and Czerwieńsk. It is designated as a walking, nature and cycling trail. Check the current signage and transport connections before using it. On the Oder, a 60-kilometre kayaking route runs from Nietkowice via Radnica, Krosno Odrzańskie, Osiecznica and Połęcko to Szydłowo. For this route, check current launch options as well as river and safety conditions.
