In the heart of Witnica is the Drogowskazów i Słupów Milowych Cywilizacji Park: it covers more than 7 hectares and is located next to the Witna stream. The town brings together an expansive park and several distinct cultural themes—from brewing history to military-historical collections.
Park and tangible traces of history
The “Droga donikąd” installation is located in the park and includes remains of field fortifications and a fragment of the Berlin Wall. These two types of traces give the site a concrete historical connection. Anyone interested in the park’s different themes will find more here than signposts and milestones: these historical remains are also among the exhibits.
Collections and military equipment
The Muzeum Chwały Oręża Polskiego divides its collections into three sections: “Wojsko Polskie 1919–1939,” “Polskie Siły Zbrojne na Zachodzie” and “Współczesne Siły Zbrojne.” The first title specifies a clear period; the other two focus on the Polish Armed Forces in the West and the contemporary armed forces. This makes it possible to explore the collection through its different subject areas.
The museum also has an open-air exhibition of cannons, howitzers and anti-aircraft guns used by the Polish army during the Second World War. It presents military equipment alongside the three collection sections and forms a distinct focus within the museum’s offerings.
Brewing history in Witnica
The Lubuskie Muzeum Browarnictwa is located on the brewery grounds in a former malt house. The museum’s memorabilia also point beyond Witnica: they come from breweries in around 50 places where beer was brewed in what is now the Lubusz region. The building’s former use and the regional origins of the collection offer two different ways to explore brewing history.
A description from 2022 also mentions a device that allows visitors to create their own beer. If you are planning your visit around this option, check in advance whether it is currently available.
Witnickie Piwowaria is also a regular outdoor event that has been held in Witnica since 2014. If your trip depends on this event, check the current dates.
Architecture and finding your way around the municipality
The parish church in Witnica is Neo-Gothic and also features elements of Neo-Romanesque architecture. For architecture enthusiasts, this combination is the most notable indication of the church’s architectural styles.
The Polsko–Niemiecki Szlak Konny Nowe Polichno–Pritzhagen, the first Polish-German horse-riding trail, offers another perspective on the municipality. It runs through the municipality of Witnica and is signposted; route maps are available at tourist facilities. Within the municipality, the route passes through the Bogdaniec Nature Reserve, Świerkocin, Witnica, Mościczki, Kamień Wielki, Młyniska and Dąbroszyn before reaching Warniki. The sequence of places and the reserve give a concrete indication of the route without implying a travel time or difficulty level.
The themes differ clearly in focus: the museum is devoted to collections and military equipment, the church to architecture, and the horse-riding trail to finding your way through several places in the municipality.
