Świdnik combines the facilities at Park Avia with an urban history reflected in industry, architecture and social life. You can complement these themes in your plans with destinations elsewhere in Świdnik County—but it is important to distinguish the city from the wider travel destination.

Park Avia: Pools, hot tubs and sauna

Park Avia in Świdnik has an indoor swimming pool with 25-metre lanes and a smaller indoor pool for swimming lessons. There are also two hot tubs, as well as a dry sauna and a steam sauna. The facilities serve different purposes: the smaller pool is intended for lessons, while the larger pool has 25-metre lanes; the hot tubs and both types of sauna complement the swimming area.

If you would like to include Park Avia in your travel plans, check the current access conditions before your visit. This will help you plan your time around the facilities on offer, without treating swimming, lessons and sauna use as the same experience.

Industrial history and cityscape

WSK motorcycles were produced in Świdnik and are considered a symbol of Poland’s post-war motorisation. This historical connection gives the city an industrial dimension. The Strefa Historii is located in the LOT cinema in Świdnik. If you would like to visit, check the visiting arrangements in advance; its location in the cinema alone does not tell you whether it is currently open to visitors.

The architecture also reflects different periods in the city’s history. Summer houses dating from the interwar period of the 20th century have been preserved in the wooded district of Adampol. The city centre, built in 1954, is an example of socialist-realist architecture. Comparing these periods provides a way to explore Świdnik’s built history without conflating them into a single architectural period.

The history of the city also includes the Świdnickie Spacery: in the 1980s, these were a peaceful form of protest and social resistance. Together with motorcycle production and the different periods of construction, they offer several specific historical themes to explore during a stay in Świdnik.

The wider county as a travel destination

Beyond the city, Świdnik County lies on the Lublin Upland and almost entirely within the Świdnik Plateau and the Giełczew Elevation. The Giełczew River crosses a large part of the county; its three main tributaries are the Radomirka, Sierotka and Giełczewka. These details describe the wider county area, not individual districts of Świdnik.

Protected landscapes are also spread across different municipalities in the county. In the north of Trawniki Municipality are areas of the Nadwieprzański Landscape Park and the botanically valuable Uroczysko Jezioro Nature Reserve. Many rare and protected plant and animal species live there, including the European pond turtle. Almost half of Rybczewice Municipality is covered by Krzczonowski Landscape Park, owing to its particularly valuable natural environment. These regional attractions may be relevant when choosing a longer stay in the area.

Routes and cultural heritage in Świdnik County

Cycling routes published by the county run through all the municipalities in Świdnik County and provide access to nature, cultural heritage, and historic and religious sites. For a specific trip, it is advisable to check the latest route information. Another described option is the “Przez włości Koźmianów do kozickiego dworu” hiking route: it runs from Świdnik via Wierzchowiska, Kawęczyn and Bystrzejowice to Kozice Dolne. The route is about 20 kilometres long and takes three to four hours. Its length and duration provide a guide for planning your time; check current conditions before setting off.

Distinctive historic buildings elsewhere in the county add to the region’s character. The Gardzienice I palace and park complex dates from the early 17th century, was later extended and remodelled, and is now the home of the Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices. Piaski has late-Baroque and Neoclassical ruins of a Calvinist church built between 1783 and 1835. The manor house and park complex in Wierzchowiska includes a brick palace dating from around 1850 and the remains of a park with a pond, laid out in the 19th century. These examples are in the wider county area and should be distinguished from attractions in the city of Świdnik.
