You can plan a visit to Janowice from two perspectives: its manor house history and an older suggested route that passes through the village. One striking chapter begins with the burning of a wooden manor house during the hostilities of 1915; a few years later, an eclectic villa with a park was built on the site. Architectural history and cycling thus offer different focuses for a stay.

Manor House History and Building Periods

In 1915, a wooden manor house in Janowice burned down during the hostilities. An eclectic villa with a park was built on its site between 1918 and 1920; a stable and a fruit-processing facility were also built. The term “eclectic” describes a design that draws on elements from different styles. The historical perspective therefore extends beyond the manor house to include the farm buildings also mentioned.

In 2024, the buildings were in very poor condition; the users at the time carried out neither renovation nor preservation work. Another architectural point of reference in Janowice is a manor complex with a brick manor house dating from the second half of the 19th century. The building periods offer a concrete comparison: the 19th-century manor house and the villa built between 1918 and 1920. Those interested in architecture will find not just one type of building here, but also different historical periods.

More Architecture in the Municipality

Notable buildings are also described in other places within the municipality. In Krzesimów, a castle and park complex stands on a hill in the northeastern part of the village. Minkowice railway station is an example of eclectic architecture from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The manor and park complex in Krępiec includes a surviving brick watermill from the 1920s. In Podzamcze, an 18th-century castle complex includes a brick Baroque wayside chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk.

These places broaden the cultural theme to include other architectural forms and periods: castle and park complexes, railway station architecture, a mill, and a chapel. If you plan your stay beyond Janowice, you can choose your focus according to which of these architectural themes interests you most.

An Older Suggested Cycling Loop

For cyclists, a route suggested by Powiat Świdnicki runs from Świdnik via Las Szpitalny, Janówek, Janowice, Mełgiew, and Nowy Krępiec, before returning to Świdnik. The loop is about 19.5 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. The section from Świdnik to Las Szpitalny follows a narrow, overgrown path. After that, the route runs mostly along quiet asphalt roads, except for the Janowice–Mełgiew–Nowy Krępiec section.

The route was published in 2008–2009. Check the current route and conditions before setting out. The approximate distance and duration provide a framework for planning, while the descriptions of the road surfaces give a more specific sense of the route.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether Janowice and its manor house history will be the focus of your stay, or whether other places in the municipality mentioned here will also be part of your cultural itinerary. The cycling loop is an activity that takes about two hours; the historic buildings offer a different focus.
