The layout of the village is a practical point to consider when deciding whether to stay overnight in Karmanowice. Most of the buildings form a linear village stretching for more than one and a half kilometres along a road. The road branches north from the Lublin–Kazimierz Dolny route towards Klementowice and then Kurów. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth considering its exact location within the village: the place name alone does not tell you where accommodation is situated along this settlement. Compare its location with the destinations you plan to visit during your stay.
Road connections for your journey
A municipal annual report from 2024 mentions a road that runs through Karmanowice and KurĂłw and connects to International Route No. 17 between Warsaw and LwĂłw. Together with the direction towards Klementowice and KurĂłw, this provides several road connections to help you find your way. Check the current route and road designation for your specific journey.
Archaeological traces and local history
The area’s earlier history can be explored through different kinds of evidence. Neolithic inhabitants of what is now Karmanowice practised agriculture, made tools from flint and animal bones, and shaped clay vessels. These activities offer three concrete perspectives on daily life: obtaining food, using available materials and making pottery. There is also a more precisely defined archaeological find: archaeologists from UMCS, led by Dr Jolanta Nogaj-Chachaj, discovered a cemetery in Karmanowice dating to the 4th millennium BC, with 49 graves and 57 skeletons. The find adds an archaeological perspective on burial to the history of daily life.
The year 1381 marks a different period: Karmanowice was first mentioned then as the property of the nobility. The dates serve different purposes: the 4th millennium BC belongs to the history of archaeological finds, while 1381 dates the first mention as property. This mention should not be equated with the founding of the village.
Remembrance in Karmanowice
On private woodland in Karmanowice is a grave containing the remains of several Jewish women and men murdered in 1943. On 21 June 2018, the grave was permanently marked and secured. A memorial ceremony and a prayer at the grave of the victims of the Shoah were also held in Zakręcony Forest on that date. If you would like to include the grave in your trip, check in advance whether access is possible, as the land is private.
Fishing by the water
A municipal strategy for 2007–2015 described the Stanica Wędkarska in Karmanowice as a place for fishing and recreation by the water. It mentioned a pier and a boat; caught fish could also be prepared on site. If fishing or preparing your catch affects your plans, check in advance whether the facility is currently operating and accessible. This lets you take this specific feature into account when choosing your accommodation without assuming that the historical description reflects a current offering.
