Małaszewicze Duże combines a history of fortifications with other, very different traces of local life. The intermediate fortification, built in 1914 and 1915, the history of a manor house on the edge of the village, historical memories of 1943 and 1944, and culinary events represent a range of historical and community themes. If you are considering visiting the village, you can distinguish between these focal points: the fortification is only one part of local history.

Intermediate Fortification and Local Connections

The Małaszewicze Duże Intermediate Fortification – Battery (FDa) was built in 1914–1915 as a defensive structure made of earth and is one of the designated monuments. The fortress complex in the present-day Terespol municipality comprises 31 objects in total: fortresses, intermediate fortifications, batteries, inter-fortification ramparts and military roads; the Małaszewicze Duże Intermediate Fortification is one of them. This figure refers to the entire municipality, not just the village. Another specific connection is Road No. 023, which links Małaszewicze Małe and Małaszewicze Duże. Its 1,372-metre section is paved with cobblestones. The paving detail applies to this section, not to the entire connection in general.

Other Historical Layers

The village's history also extends beyond its fortifications. A Polish officer cadet school was organised in a manor house on the outskirts of Małaszewicze Duże. A historical account published in 2021 also mentions a camp on the grounds of the air base in Małaszewicze Duże. Documents, accounts and witnesses were sought regarding the executions of Polish citizens of Jewish origin in 1943 and 1944. The manor house and the memory of the executions belong to different historical contexts. The events of 1943 and 1944 took place well after the intermediate fortification was built in 1914 and 1915; the village's history thus encompasses distinct periods.

Local Culinary Life

The community side of local life is also reflected in festivals and culinary events. Members of KGW Małaszewicze Duże enjoy taking part in festivals and harvest festivals, where they present their baked goods. The winter programme for 2023 included a culinary workshop in Małaszewicze Duże on January 18; on January 24, 2020, the “MASTER SZEF” workshop was on the programme there. Both workshops took place in January, but in different years. The January events are complemented by participation in festivals and harvest festivals, where baked goods are presented.

Leisure Activities and Events

Leisure activities are another aspect of local life. On August 19, 2007, sports and recreational competitions for children and young people from schools were held at the village sports field. Walks are a leisure activity associated with Regina Wysokińska’s agritourism establishment in Małaszewicze Duże. These two leisure activities differ in form: the competition was a specific school-related event held on a particular date, while walks are associated with a specific agritourism establishment.
