The 13th-century parish church, with its Gothic Madonna, and the brick ruin known as “Ruiny szubienicy” offer contrasting historical highlights in Wojcieszów. The Góra Miłek Nature Reserve is also within the town limits. Nature, trails, and architectural history offer different starting points for planning a trip. If you are looking for accommodation in Wojcieszów, you can consider which focus you want to shape your stay: forest and geology, a walk, or historic art and buildings.

Natural Landscape and Trails

The Góra Miłek Nature Reserve is within the town limits of Wojcieszów. It encompasses a Cambrian limestone and crystalline dolomite massif, with several peaks and numerous karst features. On its calcareous ground, it protects species-rich Sudetic beech forests and thermophilous orchid beech forests. This brings together two distinct features in one natural area: the geological form of the massif and its forest communities. Those interested in geology can focus on the peaks and karst features; for nature enthusiasts, the different types of beech forest are an equally specific focus.

The blue hiking trail “SZLAK NIEBIESKI” starts in Wojcieszów at the intersection of Chrobrego and Górnicza streets. It is considered an easy walking route. Another trail runs from Wojcieszów via Radzimowice and Mysłów to Płonina; along it, you can see the forest stands of the Góra Miłek Nature Reserve. The trails offer different focuses: the blue trail has a clearly specified starting point and difficulty level, while the route to Płonina draws attention to the forest. Check route information locally before setting out on a hike.

Art and Architectural History

The parish church “kościół parafialny pw. Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Marii Panny” dates from the 13th century. It contains a fine Gothic Madonna and Child, as well as a group of full-length tomb slabs from the 16th and 17th centuries. Thus, a single Gothic artwork stands alongside several figurative tomb slabs; the church combines a medieval building with furnishings from later centuries.

Hidden in the forest is the brick ruin of an inn from the first half of the 17th century, “Ruiny szubienicy.” The building is shaped like a tower with stone pillars. It is considered the largest and best-preserved structure of its kind in Silesia. Its date and architectural form give the ruin a clearly defined character; comparison with similar buildings also places it in a Silesian context.

There are three small palaces in Wojcieszów. They can be viewed from the outside; the interiors may be visited by arrangement with the owner. If you would like to see inside, arrange your visit with the owner in advance. The three palaces add another architectural highlight to the church and the ruin.
