Złoty Stok brings the history of gold mining to life in several ways: through an interactive exhibition in a former miners’ church, a walk past historic monuments, mining equipment you can try out for yourself, and trails through former work areas. When planning your stay, it helps to decide what you want to focus on first: experience the history in an exhibition, explore places on foot, try out practical technology or take a guided tour. Each option offers a different emphasis and gives your day a clear direction.

Mining history in exhibitions and the town

An interactive multimedia exhibition is housed in the former church of the miners of Złoty Stok, which dates back to 1517. Here, you can encounter mining history in an exhibition set in a historic location. The Miejska Trasa Turystyczna (Town Tourist Trail) offers a different focus: it passes monuments closely connected with the history of gold mining and gold processing, and takes you to important places in Złoty Stok on a walk of about two hours. Plan any further visits alongside this walk as separate activities.

Hands-on insights and trails

The Medieval Mining Settlement is an open-air museum and technology park where you can try out working equipment from the mining industry of past centuries for yourself. This hands-on experience sets it apart from the multimedia exhibition and the monument trails: the focus here is on the equipment and trying it out yourself. If you would like to include practical technology in your stay as well as sightseeing, you can choose the Mining Settlement as a separate activity.

The Złota Ścieżka (Golden Trail) is another option for a walk. It runs through areas where mining and smelting once took place, passing remnants of this work. Its focus is therefore on former work areas and the traces left there. By comparison, the Miejska Trasa passes monuments connected with the history of gold mining and processing, and offers a walk of about two hours. When choosing between the two routes, consider whether you would rather focus on the remains of former work or the monuments in Złoty Stok.

A guided city tour offers yet another perspective. It takes you to places that have shaped the history of the Złoty Stok region in a replica of an early-20th-century Ford Buick. While the two trails invite you to explore on foot, on this tour you discover these places on a guided drive. If you want to include the tour in your day’s plans, check the available times in advance.

Choose a hotel based on your itinerary

Would you rather plan a visit to the exhibition, some hands-on activities, a walk or a guided tour? Then compare the location of a specific hotel with the visits you have in mind, and compare the accommodation features that matter to you. If you have several priorities, choose one to focus on and keep the rest of the day flexible.
