Góra offers a variety of highlights for an exploratory trip: medieval defensive history, churches, trails of varying lengths, and nature in the Barycz area. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether architectural history, outdoor activities, or nature watching should be the focus. The sights in town and the routes in the surrounding area offer different ways to explore.

Defensive History and Viewpoints

The Głogowska Tower dates from the 15th century and stood as a defensive tower beside the former Głogowska Gate. After its revitalization, it was used as a viewpoint. Preserved sections of the medieval town wall follow the original line of the fortifications. The tower and wall show two aspects of historic defense: a structure at the former gate and the course of the fortifications.

Another viewpoint is the historic water tower. It was revitalized in 2021 and serves as a viewpoint. A flag on the tower bears the year 1915. If you are planning a visit, check the access rules beforehand, as visiting conditions may change.

Churches in Góra

The church in Góra is Gothic, while its interior is Baroque. The current church building dates from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The combination of styles gives the building its distinctive architectural character. The Corpus Christi Church with its Calvary is considered a valuable pilgrimage complex in Poland. Together, the churches offer different perspectives on the town’s religious and architectural history.

Trails with Different Profiles

There are three easy nature trails in the Góra municipality, suitable for walking, cycling, running, and Nordic walking; there are no steep climbs. One longer, specifically measured option is the 15-kilometer Jastrząb walking and cycling trail. It starts in Góra and passes through Stara Góra, Rogów Górowski, Osetno, and Gola Górowska before reaching Jastrzębie.

A 10-kilometer running route starts opposite the municipal swimming pool and runs mainly along forest paths between Góra and Ryczeń. The 7.8-kilometer educational forest trail starts near Góra and leads to the Barycz Reservoir near Ryczeń; along the way are 19 educational stations and three rest areas. The routes differ in length and focus: a running route, a walking and cycling trail between several places, or a forest trail with learning stations. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Birdwatching and Forests

The section of the Barycz Valley in the area around Góra is protected as a Natura 2000 site. Possible sightings include grey herons, cranes, black storks, white-tailed eagles, kingfishers, terns, and ducks. Which species can be observed depends on the season. The variety of birds mentioned makes the time of year a useful consideration when planning a stay focused on nature watching.

The forests in the Góra municipality also offer a distinctive landscape. They are mainly characterized by pine forests. They include inland dune ecosystems with juniper, which are considered valuable for nature conservation. This means the natural region can be understood not only through its birdlife, but also through its forest and dune landscapes.

Paddling on the Barycz

For a paddling trip on the Barycz, there is a put-in point in Sądowel, which you can reach from Góra via Wierzowice Wielkie. There is a landing stage, a shelter, toilets, a fire pit, and seating. Check access and the condition of the facilities before travelling.
