The “Dolina Baryczy” Protected Landscape Area covers 43,350 hectares and includes areas in the municipalities of Niechlów, Jemielno, Góra and Wąsosz in Górowski County. It is protected because of its diverse ecosystems and its importance for tourism and recreation. Extending across four municipalities, it represents a different scale from a single trail or historic building.

Routes for Different Interests

The scenic “Jastrząb” cycling and walking trail starts in Góra and runs through Stara Góra, Rogów Górowski, Osetno, Golę Górowską and Jastrzębie. Its sequence of place names makes it appealing if you want to explore a route that passes through several localities. “Bóbr” offers a different perspective on nature: along the approximately 48-kilometre route, you can observe animals and many plant and tree species; it is also used for mushroom picking. If you plan to use the route for this, bear in mind that conditions may vary.

The “DZICZEK” route is suitable for walkers and cyclists and is also used by athletes for Nordic walking. It starts in Góra and ends in Ryczeń. Jastrząb can be identified by its sequence of localities; DZICZEK, by contrast, is defined by its users and its start and end points. The routes therefore offer different ways to find your bearings: one via several named places, the other via its user groups and the route from Góra to Ryczeń.

Buildings and Historic Traces

In Kłoda Górowska, you’ll find a well-preserved 17th-century palace with a moat and a fragment of the bridge over the moat, on which two coats of arms survive. There is also a burial chapel dating from 1892, as well as tombstones belonging to the von Gossler family. The complex thus brings together several specific historical details: the palace, the remains of the bridge with its coats of arms, and traces of the von Gossler family.

The ducal castle in Wąsosz lies between the Orla and Barycz rivers and was built in the 14th century. An older commemorative plaque recalls visits by Piast dukes from Głogów, Oleśnica and Legnica. The construction date and the plaque highlight different aspects of history: the castle’s age is presented alongside the memory of the dukes.

In Góra, the Corpus Christi Church also combines architectural history with religious tradition. It houses a Chapel of the “Holy Stairs,” which was a pilgrimage destination in the 18th century. The church’s history probably dates back to the end of the 14th century. The chapel and the pilgrimages point to a distinctive religious use in the past; the church’s early history should be dated with appropriate caution.

The Głogowska Tower

Following its revitalization, completed in 2017, the Głogowska Tower was used as a viewpoint from January 2018. It is also occasionally used as a venue for exhibitions and displays. If you plan to include the tower in your itinerary, check the current opening schedule in advance.
