Ceramics, architectural history and leisure activities give Bunzlau (Bolesławiec) its many facets. The Muzeum Ceramiki combines historic pieces with contemporary ceramic production; the viaduct and town hall tell the story of the city’s development. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on collections, architecture or outdoor activities.

See ceramics and create your own

The Muzeum Ceramiki in Bolesławiec has around 6,000 exhibits. The oldest vessel dates from the 13th century. The collection also includes typical bronze products, stamped ceramics, works from the former vocational ceramics school in Bolesławiec, and contemporary ceramic production. It therefore spans everything from early vessels to works from various periods of ceramic production in Bolesławiec.

The Centrum Dawnych Technik Garncarskich at the Muzeum Ceramiki offers ceramics workshops in Mini, Midi and Maxi formats. The formats also differ in what happens to your creation: in the Mini format, you do not take it home; in the Midi format, participants take it home unfired. In the Maxi format, it is glazed and fired and can be collected later. Check the workshop booking conditions before your trip.

The viaduct and town hall: architectural history in the cityscape

The Bolesławiec railway viaduct was built between 1844 and 1846. It is 26 metres high, 490 metres long and 8 metres wide. Its dimensions give a tangible sense of the scale of the structure and make it a striking feature among the city’s historic sights.

The town hall brings together a variety of historic details. The oldest surviving part today is the north wing with its tower, which dates to the late 15th century. It is associated with a Saxon-Lusatian thatched-roof tradition. The portal area on the south façade forms the entrance to the Wedding Palace. Its extensive sculptural decoration includes floral ornaments, arabesques, masks, herms, mascarons, rustication and warriors’ heads. It also features the coat of arms of its benefactor, Mayor Paul Hanewald.

The town walls of Bolesławiec were largely destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1841, it was decided to convert the former fortification grounds into a promenade, with plans for a picturesque walking avenue and several stately buildings. This urban transformation adds another chapter of city history to the story told by individual buildings.

Leśny Potok and outdoor activities

The Leśny Potok leisure complex is on Jeleniogórska Street in Bolesławiec and was developed around a restored retention reservoir. The complex includes a swimming area where the water is filtered by a plant-based biosystem without chemical agents. Beach volleyball courts are also part of the facilities. Check seasonal opening hours before your visit.

Wiadukt Plaza skatepark offers several areas: a pro area with jumps and the so-called “Satelitka,” a fast outer track, as well as an asphalt bowl and an easy area for less advanced riders. The different areas help you choose the facility to suit your preferred riding style. Check opening hours and safety rules before your visit.
