For five days in 2026, a ceramics market was held at the Rynek and on ul. Prusa: the 32nd Bolesławieckie Święto Ceramiki took place from August 19 to 23. The festival is held annually in August in the city of Bolesławiec; specific dates and programs may change. So, before a future trip, check the details for the relevant edition.
The history of ceramics at the museum and in the city
The Muzeum Ceramiki w Bolesławcu collects materials on the history of Bolesławiec and the region, the development of Bolesławiec ceramics, and contemporary ceramic sculptures by artists who take part in the ceramics plein-air events in Bolesławiec. Since April 2024, the collections of the ceramics department and the city history department have been presented in newly designed, modernized rooms. Check the current visitor information before your visit. A revitalized historic park adjoins the museum.
Bolesławiec has a centuries-old ceramics tradition. In 2021, the city became the first in Poland to officially join the European Route of Ceramics, a cultural route certified by the Council of Europe. The museum thus brings together city history, the development of ceramics, and contemporary works; the ceramics festival also provides a time-limited opportunity to explore the subject.
Historic walks and city history
In the vicinity of the destination, the Muzeum Ceramiki offers guided city tours along five historic routes. You must select your preferred route when booking. One of them is “Szlak ceramików i rzeźbiarzy.” Another historic walk in Bolesławiec, “Szlak średniowiecznych budowniczych i kopaczy złota,” includes the town hall, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas, the city walls, and a monument commemorating the construction of the water and sewage network in 1531. Check the current booking arrangements before planning.
The city’s history can also be read in its buildings, beyond the walking routes. In the associated municipality, the manor house in Warta Bolesławiecka acquired its Renaissance appearance in the first half of the 16th century. This date offers a distinct historical reference point alongside the stops on the walking routes.
Explore ceramic techniques
Nearby, the Centrum Dawnych Technik Garncarskich offers workshops in wheel throwing and ceramic decoration. The program also includes bas-reliefs and small sculptures, casting vessels in molds, and making impressions in plaster molds. Visits for individuals and groups are possible by prior arrangement and without a guide. If you are interested in the craft side of ceramics, these activities focus on a range of techniques—from shaping clay on a potter’s wheel to working with plaster or casting molds. Check the current arrangements before your trip.
Forests, meadows, and regional protected areas
In the associated municipalities, the lowland “Puszczański” trail runs between Zebrzydowa and Bolesławiec and is 34 kilometers long in total. Of this, 16 kilometers are in the Gmina Osiecznica and five kilometers are in the Gmina Bolesławiec. The trail runs mainly through large forest areas; in the Gmina Bolesławiec, a substantial section crosses meadows. The total distance and the sections with their different landscapes are two separate points of reference if you are considering adding the route to your plans.
At the level of the wider Bolesławiec County, the Bory Dolnośląskie are among the ten Natura 2000 sites and the four protected landscape areas. The Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy is one of the county’s landscape parks. Dolina Czarnej Wody is also one of the four protected landscape areas; Brzeźnik is one of the three nature reserves. The Bory Dolnośląskie are also listed as a tourist attraction in the county. This classification describes the broader regional context, not a single route.
The cultural heritage of the Gmina Nowogrodziec includes Pieczenica (Pečenica), a festival celebrating roasted suckling pig. The associated customs are still observed there today; no specific event dates are provided. The region’s attractions thus range from ceramics and city history to landscape conservation and living traditions.
