Sobota’s history can be traced through clearly dated buildings and religious art; cyclists also have two routes with different landmarks to guide them. Cultural history and cycling therefore offer distinct points of interest.

Church, Bell Tower and Religious Art

The church in Sobota is a late Gothic building erected in 1510 through a foundation by Jan Sobocki. Next to it stands a separate bell tower, a Baroque building from the second half of the 18th century. The church and tower thus represent different architectural periods in Sobota.

The church contains 16th-century Renaissance tombs of the Sobocki family, made of red marble. An image of the Madonna and Child from the first half of the 17th century is considered miraculous. Pilgrims visit the Marian Shrine to pray to Our Lady of Sobota for graces and help. In addition to its late Gothic architecture, the church has further cultural significance through its religious art and pilgrimage tradition.

Manor House, Park and Landscape

The manor house was built in 1809 for its owner at the time, Ignacy Łaszkowski, and extensively renovated in 1912. The two dates distinguish the building’s construction from a later alteration. A small, well-maintained park covering 1.5 hectares surrounds the manor house; it was laid out in the early 19th century. The park’s creation therefore dates to the manor house’s early period.

The location of the village is also described precisely: Sobota’s built-up area lies on the gently sloping eastern hillside of the Samica Kierska valley. The village landscape thus combines its buildings with a connection to the valley. Those who choose Sobota for its history will find a range of points of interest in its architecture, religious art and parkland.

Cycling: Two Ways to Navigate

The Marian Shrine can be reached by bicycle via the Szlak Stu Jezior. The section described, from Kiekrz via Pawłowice, reaches Sobota after about 6.8 km. This approximate distance provides a guide for planning; check route conditions before setting off.

On the northern section of the Transwielkopolska Trasa Rowerowa, the route crosses the road connecting Rokietnica and Sobota at kilometre 15.7. At kilometre 16.3, it follows a sandy path through a forest, with Gajówka Sobota left behind on the left. At kilometre 17.3, the route crosses the Samica Kierska over a bridge. This section is therefore marked by individual kilometre points, a path surface and landscape features that can help with navigation.

The two route descriptions help with different planning questions: the Szlak Stu Jezior gives an approximate distance for the section to Sobota, while the Transwielkopolska Trasa Rowerowa details individual route features. If you plan to take either route, check the path conditions and signage before setting off.
