In Puszczykowo, travel and motoring history meet striking buildings and trails with different focuses. The contrast is useful for finding your bearings: museums and a church offer insights into collecting and architectural history; cycling and walking routes either pass through the town or connect it with other places.

Museums and architectural history

The Muzeum Arkadego Fiedlera has been housed since 1974 in a villa built in 1926 in the style of a Polish manor house. The museum’s collection includes mementos and trophies from the travels of Arkady Fiedler—a writer and traveller—and his sons. The museum also features a full-size replica of Christopher Columbus’s sailing ship, the Santa Maria, as well as a replica of a Hurricane aircraft. The collection thus brings together the history of travel and large-scale exhibits.

The Muzeum Polskiej Motoryzacji offers a different focus. It preserves and presents Poland’s motoring heritage, showcasing motorcycles, historic cars and technical products that have shaped its history. Its extensive vehicle collection includes every motorcycle produced in Poland after the war, as well as most pre-war models. Those interested in technological development will find a distinct perspective on local history here, quite different from the travel mementos at the Fiedler Museum.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Matki Boskiej Wniebowziętej) also adds to the picture of the town’s architectural history. It was built between 1923 and 1928. The main altar houses a sculpture of the Assumption of Mary, created by Czesław Woźniak in 1936; a painting of the Madonna and Child by Władysław Roguski can be seen at the side altar. If a museum visit is essential to your trip, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Routes with different focuses

Puszczykowo is part of a named cycling route, the Łącznikowy Szlak Rowerowy: it runs from Poznań via Luboń and Puszczykowo to the market square in Mosina, connecting the town with a section of the Pierścień Rowerowy Dookoła Poznania. The green Arkady Fiedler Trail has a different scope, remaining within the boundaries of Puszczykowo. The Łącznikowy Szlak Rowerowy continues beyond Puszczykowo, while the Arkady Fiedler Trail stays within the town.

Other routes focus on the town itself. The Szlak Letniska passes through the quiet streets of Puszczykowo; the historic buildings along the way recall the history of that era. “Perły architektury Puszczykowa” highlights the distinctive value and beauty of the town’s architecture, including pre-war villas and architecturally interesting boarding houses. If you prefer to focus on buildings and townscapes while exploring, these routes offer a different emphasis from the inter-town cycling connection.

Zakole Warty is a destination for outings, family walks and picnics. The vegetation-covered riverbank provides easy access to the water. Alongside cultural and architectural attractions, this makes time by the water another distinct reason to visit.

Local history and your stay

The history of Puszczykowo as an excursion destination is also reflected in the development of its railway station: it was expanded in 1910 because of the great popularity of trips to Puszczykowo. A long-standing local establishment is the ice cream parlour run by the Kostusiak family. It has been operating for 60 years, attracts many visitors on warm weekends and is a destination for motorcycle and cycling trips.

If you are looking for accommodation in Puszczykowo, the differences between these attractions can help guide your choice: museum collections and architectural history, a cycling route through several places, or trails and destinations within the town. Consider what you want your trip to focus on, and check current visiting arrangements in advance for any museum visits you have firmly planned.
