Explore Kórnik through a range of interests: walking and cycling routes, the arboretum in the castle park, and historical buildings and artefacts. The Church of All Saints (pw. Wszystkich Świętych) and the armour in Kórnik Castle (Zamek w Kórniku) offer different ways to engage with history. When planning your trip, consider whether you want to focus on nature, outdoor activities or cultural history.

Promenade, cycle route and a biographical landmark

The Wisława Szymborska Promenade is just under 3 km long. It has a footpath and a cycle path, each 1.5 m wide. Pedestrians and cyclists therefore have separate paths along the promenade. Its length and width provide concrete points of reference for planning, while the two types of path cater to different ways of getting around.

The Kórnik Cycle Ring starts in Kórnik’s Market Square, by the town hall. On the promenade, the focus is on its length and path widths; on the cycle route, it is on the starting point. The two routes therefore address different planning questions: Which type of path would you like to use, and where does the cycle route begin?

The promenade passes the former Prowent manor farm. Prowent is the birthplace of Wisława Szymborska, the Nobel Prize-winning poet born in 1923. This gives the route a specific biographical connection for literature enthusiasts: her birthplace lies along the route, not merely in the promenade’s name.

The arboretum and armour

The Kórnik Arboretum is located in the castle park, covers 30 ha and is open to visitors year-round. Check the operating details before your visit. Its year-round access means you can choose when to travel, while its size makes the arboretum a destination in its own right. It offers a different focus from the routes: here, you can plan a visit to a 30 ha site rather than choose a route by type of path or starting point.

Kórnik Castle houses one of only two complete sets of winged hussar armour preserved in Poland. You can also see koncerz swords, breastplates with helmets, karabela sabres and maces. Alongside the complete suit of armour, there are individual weapons and pieces of protective equipment. Those interested in military history will find a tangible point of interest here, distinct from the arboretum’s focus on nature.

Layers of architectural history

The Church of All Saints (pw. Wszystkich Świętych) in Kórnik was built in 1437. Its present appearance dates from the 1836–1837 reconstruction following the great fire of Kórnik. Two building phases are therefore central to its history: its original construction and a later reconstruction that shaped its present appearance. The dates establish a chronology for the church’s history, rather than reducing it to a single year of construction.

When choosing a cultural focus, you can distinguish between architectural history and historical objects: the church is defined by its construction and later reconstruction, while the castle focuses on armour and weapons. Together with the arboretum and the routes, these offer different themes to guide your travel plans and your search for a hotel in Kórnik.
