Kicin can be explored through several distinct experiences: the wooden Church of St. Joseph, trails with nature-related, historical or religious connections, and a quest with tasks. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can tailor your choice to the topics that interest you most: architecture and church history, trails through several places, or a puzzle walk.

The church and trails with different connections

The wooden Church of St. Joseph in Kicin was built between 1749 and 1751, funded by the Bishop of Poznań, Józef Tadeusz Kierski. It lies along the Szlak Kościołów Drewnianych (Wooden Churches Trail) around the Puszcza Zielonka. Since 2016, the surrounding landscape next to the church has also been home to the Droga Różańcowa (Rosary Way), which connects Kicin with Wierzenica. The two trails have different emphases: the Szlak Kościołów Drewnianych places the church on a named trail around the Puszcza Zielonka; the Droga Różańcowa connects two places.

Trails through Kicin and the surrounding area

The nature and history August Cieszkowski Trail, established in Kicin in 2014, runs through Kicin, Wierzenica and Mechowo, as well as along several field and forest paths. As a hiking and cycling route between Kicin and Wierzenica, it has 17 stations. The starting point is the Regional Museum at the primary school in Kicin named after A. Cieszkowski. Compared with the Droga Różańcowa, the route covers more places: as well as Kicin and Wierzenica, the August Cieszkowski Trail also passes through Mechowo.

The Szlak Niepodległości (Independence Trail) offers a different kind of route: it is a forest path about 2.7 km long between Kicin and Dziewicza Góra. It includes 14 crosses, the so-called “Droga Krzyżowa” (Way of the Cross), as well as 17 information and wayfinding signs. It can therefore be distinguished from the August Cieszkowski Trail by different features: here, the forest path, approximate length, crosses and signs are described; there, the focus is on the 17 stations, three places and several field and forest paths.

Quest and getting there

The quest “Kicin – dobrze, błogo i błękitnie” (Kicin – good, blissful and blue) starts at the entrance to the primary school on Gwarna Street. During the walk, participants solve tasks and puzzles that lead to a treasure chest with a stamp. This sets the activity apart from trails described mainly in terms of their route, stations or trail markers: tasks and puzzles are part of the quest. The August Cieszkowski Trail, by contrast, starts at the Regional Museum at the primary school named after A. Cieszkowski.

A visitor information source from 2023 lists bus lines 321 and 323 from Rondo Śródka in Poznań, and lines 394 and 396 from Koziegłowy; the listed stop is Kicin Szkolna. Check current routes and timetables before travelling.
