The parish church of St. Lawrence in Kosmów brings together works of art from several centuries. At the same time, a northern cycling stage passes through the town: 28.5 kilometres from Stawiszyn via Kosmów to Krzyżówki. For trip planning, this brings two different scales together—the furnishings of a single church building and a route that places Kosmów within a longer cycling tour.
St. Lawrence and its dates
The parish church of St. Lawrence is entered in the monument register under number KI.IV – 73/98/54, dated 12.06.1954. A look at its furnishings also takes you through several centuries. The Baroque main altar dates from the first half of the 18th century; its upper section contains a late Renaissance painting of the Holy Family from the first half of the 17th century. The painting is therefore older than the altar it belongs to. When exploring the church, you can consider the two dates separately: they refer to different parts of the same altar.
Imagery and furnishings
The ceiling features two illusionistic Baroque murals: one depicts the Holy Trinity, the other the Madonna and Child. In the presbytery stands a Baroque pulpit with paintings of the four Evangelists. The subjects differ: the ceiling paintings depict two biblical themes, while the pulpit shows the four Evangelists. Visitors can therefore explore the furnishings by both their location and their imagery.
From the Late Gothic period to the 19th century
The span of dates extends beyond the Baroque works. A Late Gothic crucifix from the 15th century is mounted on the rood beam. There is also a late Neoclassical baptismal font from the early 19th century and a late Neoclassical organ case dating from around the middle of the 19th century. St. Lawrence thus brings together Late Gothic, late Renaissance, Baroque and late Neoclassical works. The dates within the 19th century can also be distinguished: the baptismal font belongs to its early part, while the organ case dates from around the middle of the century.
Kosmów as a stage stop
The northern stage offers a concrete point of reference for planning a cycling trip. It is 28.5 kilometres long in total and follows the stated order from Stawiszyn via Kosmów to Krzyżówki. Kosmów therefore lies on the route between the named endpoints; it is not itself one of them. This distinction helps put the stage into a trip plan: the stated distance covers the entire route connecting the town with both endpoints. If you would like to include Kosmów in a cycling tour, you can treat it as an intermediate point on this route.
Another historical point of reference
The war grave of a Polish Army soldier represents a different local theme. It commemorates an individual soldier and thus differs from the art and stylistic history of the parish church. Together, the church and the war grave broaden the range of historical subjects associated with Kosmów.
