A 12-metre-long and 3-metre-high panorama depicting the defence of the city is a striking feature of Grodzisk Wielkopolski. Together with two market squares laid out in different styles, a former landscape park and Grodzisk beer, it reveals different sides of the town. This gives you a range of themes to focus on when planning your trip: historic urban layouts, architecture, green spaces and seasonal leisure.
Medieval Layout and New Town
Stary Rynek is the city centre, with a 19th-century town hall standing out on the square. Around Stary Rynek, Grodzisk Wielkopolski preserves the layout of its medieval town. In the later New Town, by contrast, the market square is rectangular and laid out at Plac Powstańców Wielkopolskich. The two squares offer a clear comparison between the medieval urban layout and the later New Town, with its rectangular market square.
Palace, Panorama and City Park
The Muzealna Izba Tradycji Ziemi Grodziskiej is housed in a listed 19th-century palace in the city park. One of its main attractions is the panorama, which is 12 metres long and 3 metres high. It depicts the defence of the city on 28 April 1848 during the Greater Poland Spring of Nations. In this way, a historic building brings together a specific episode in the city’s history and a large-scale painting.
The city park is a former landscape park dating from the mid-19th century. It contains a 1.36-hectare pond through which the Letnica flows. The park’s history, its pond and the river give the green space a distinctive character alongside the historic market squares. The park thus combines a setting that dates back to the mid-19th century with a clearly identified body of water within the city.
Churches and Architectural History
A neo-Gothic church, originally Protestant, stands in the New Town market square. It dates from 1905 and is now the Catholic church of Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa. Its construction date, neo-Gothic style and current dedication are distinct aspects of its history: its former Protestant use is part of its past, while its Catholic dedication describes its present status.
Windmill, Salt Well and Local Highlights
The Kozlak windmill dates from 1766, was reconstructed in Grodzisk Wielkopolski in 2011 and is considered a local tourist attraction. The salt well at the open-air Centre for Ecology and Education offers a different highlight: it is made of natural stone and uses Zabłocka brine. A reconstructed historic structure and a well made of a specified material and using a particular type of brine thus represent different local themes.
Grodzisk beer is another local speciality. Because it produces a thick head of foam and many bubbles, it earned the nickname “Polish champagne”. The name refers to these two characteristics and offers a tangible connection to the local brewing tradition.
Seasonal Leisure at the Summer Swimming Pool
For the 2026 season, the summer swimming pool offers a water recreation area, social facilities, lockable lockers, a relaxation area and a large green space. Operating arrangements and facilities may change after the 2026 season. If you plan to visit the summer swimming pool during your trip, check the information for the relevant season before you go.
