Întorsura Buzăului offers several distinct reasons to stay: a themed trail south-southeast of the town, churches with different historical dates, a public ostrich farm, and a swimming pool with year-round offerings. Festival traditions add to the area’s landscape and cultural themes.

Themed Trail Between River and Cultural Landscape

The Întorsura Buzăului themed trail lies south-southeast of the town and starts and ends in the camping area. There are 11 information boards along the route. Their topics range from the Buzău River and its bend to the formation of the valley, traditional meadows, pastoral farming, and forest management. The forest itself, traditional orchards in the hills and mountains, and water sources are also covered. The trail brings together nature-related topics and questions about traditional land use.

The trail description was published on September 22, 2023. Check the route before setting out: the boards and their content may change.

Churches with Different Historical Dates

The two churches offer specific starting points for exploring the area’s cultural history. Construction of the new church, dedicated to Sfânta Treime and Sfântul Mucenic Pantelimon, began in 1995. The Church of Sfântul Gheorghe is older: it was built from 1836 to 1840 and was originally dedicated to Sfânta Cuvioasă Parascheva. The dates and dedications offer two different ways into the town’s church history: for one church, the focus is on when construction began; for the other, on its construction period and original dedication.

Ostrich Farm and Swimming

The Grădina cu Struți ostrich farm is another reason to visit and is open to the public. Visitors can see ostriches of different ages, from one-week-old chicks to breeding families. Children can also take part in a workshop painting ostrich eggshells. If you want to include this workshop as a set activity, check in advance whether it is offered on your chosen date.

Bazin Întorsura Buzăului offers swimming, a sauna, a jacuzzi, and classes. It is suitable for children and adults, and its offerings are available regardless of the season. As operating details may change, check the latest information before making plans. Unlike the themed route, Bazin is a clearly defined swimming and wellness destination.

Festivals and Regional Traditions

Traditional dishes served at the “Ciobănașul” folk festival in Întorsura Buzăului include bulz, made with cornmeal and cheese, tochitură, and sheep-meat pastrami. These dishes are associated with the festival and add a culinary dimension to the event.

The village of Brădet, near Întorsura Buzăului, also offers a cultural point of interest. A local cultural publication from 2018 describes Festivalul ouălor roşii as an annual event held on the second day of Easter, bringing together artisans who decorate eggs. If you are planning a visit around Easter, check the current festival date.
