Donja Lastva is a small seaside town with its own culture and traditions. Its coastal setting is just one part of the town’s character: historic chapels and churches shape local history, while carnival and diving appeal to other interests. Those looking for accommodation here can plan their trip around their own priorities—time by the water, architectural history, or a visit in February. The places and topics below offer specific points of reference.

Coastal Setting, Beach, and Bay Views

Near Donja Lastva, Boka Beach is located by Hotel Kamelija. This concrete beach is suitable for children and adults. A promenade connects the coastline with Donja Lastva, and restaurants are located near the beach. Beach facilities and seasonal conditions can change, so it’s worth checking them before your visit.

Konoba Punto Crudo offers a different perspective on the water: the restaurant is located on the shore in Donja Lastva, next to a carob tree, and its terrace overlooks Boka Bay. The beach and terrace offer different coastal experiences—one provides a specific stretch of beach, the other a view across the bay. As details about the restaurant may change, check them before your visit.

Chapels and Churches with a History of Their Own

The Chapel of St. Teresa stands in the courtyard of the former Zmajević–Jakonja summer residence in Donja Lastva. Surviving features include an enclosing wall with a round-arched portal and a paved path, bordered by a stone colonnade, leading to the residential building. The chapel was built in 1934 by Don Đuro Peruơina, the parish priest of Gornja and Donja Lastva. The family chapel was severely damaged in the 1979 earthquake.

The Church of St. Roch stands right by the sea. It was built in 1901 over an older chapel commissioned by the noble Bolica family in the mid-16th century. The Chapel of St. Mihovil is located in the local cemetery near the church. Residents built it in 1901 as a small structure without an apse and with a single-tier bell tower. A painting in the chapel depicts the saint in battle armor, with wings and a spear. The main altar in the Church of St. Roch features a 19th-century painting by Mihailo Flori of Prčanj.

Other parts of the local cultural heritage include the Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel by the sea in the Baơići area and the Chapel of St. James on the former Dabinović–Makhovec estate. The latter is in ruins and overgrown. These different states of preservation are specific features of the historic sites; when planning a visit to St. James, take its described condition into account.

Carnival and Activities

The traditional Lastovo Carnival is celebrated in Donja Lastva on Saturdays in February. The procession goes to the pier in front of the Church of St. Roch. Dates and routes may change from year to year; if you want to plan your trip around the carnival, check the schedule for that year’s event.

The Neptun-Mimoza Diving Club has a base in Donja Lastva and offers rental and maintenance of complete diving equipment. The club trains divers and also caters to tourists who want to dive in the Adriatic. As this is a visitor service, check whether the club is currently operating before your trip. Padel Montenegro is located near Hotel Kamelija in Donja Lastva; here, too, it’s a good idea to check its current operating status before making specific plans.
