Art history and protected waters give Cuautitlán Izcalli two distinct themes to explore during a stay. Parque de las Esculturas showcases the work of a sculptor, while Espejo de los Lirios and Laguna de Axotlán offer a glimpse of waters with protected-area status. A specific sporting event is also relevant for orientation—but with a clearly defined historical date.

Charlotte Yazbek’s Works at Parque de las Esculturas

Parque de las Esculturas is home to a monumental collection of 17 works by Mexican sculptor Charlotte Yazbek. The works were originally shown in the Mexico Pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York, where they received an honorary award. The park is an open-air museum dedicated to the work of a single sculptor.

The collection’s history comprises two distinct stages: the 1964 exhibition in New York was followed by the permanent installation at Parque de las Esculturas. Yazbek herself supervised this installation in 1976. The years therefore refer to different events: 1964 marks the exhibition and award, while 1976 marks the installation of the works in the park.

La Troje, Sala de Exposiciones, is also located in Parque de las Esculturas in Cuautitlán Izcalli. Visitors considering the park as a cultural highlight can therefore take in two named points of interest: the permanent outdoor collection and La Troje within the same park.

For the period of restoration work from August to November 2026, specific operating information applies: Parque de las Esculturas remained open during the project, and cultural and recreational activities could continue. This statement applies to the stated period and does not describe operating conditions in general at a later date.

Espejo de los Lirios and Laguna de Axotlán

Espejo de los Lirios is a municipal protected natural area and is also part of the state-protected area “Santuario del Agua Laguna de Zumpango.” It covers 487,407.31 square meters. The body of water is considered one of the most important in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli and has ecological and social significance for the local population. At Espejo, both its protected status and its role in community life are therefore in focus.

Another body of water in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli is Laguna de Axotlán. It lies within the state-protected area “Santuario del Agua Laguna de Zumpango.” The municipal tourism program for 2022 to 2024 also classified Axotlán as an ecotourism site. This time-specific designation adds a tourism connection to the nature theme without equating the lagoon with Espejo de los Lirios.

A Dated Sporting Connection

Estadio Hugo Sánchez can also be linked to a specific event: it was the start and finish venue for the “Todo México Salvando Vidas 2025” race. The program included 5- and 10-kilometer runs, as well as a 3-kilometer walk for the whole family, which pets could also join. The different distances give an impression of that event’s program at the time; they refer to the 2025 edition.

The stadium adds a sporting connection with a clearly defined date to the selection.
