A 2.9-kilometer loop trail in the upper part of the city, tours of a historic brewery, and bread baked in stone ovens reveal different sides of Tecate. Since 2012, the town has been part of Mexico’s Pueblos Mágicos program; Tecate is considered the only Pueblo Mágico on an international border. The Ruta del Vino de Baja California begins in Tecate. The town is considered its northern gateway; the route is associated with some of the state’s oldest wineries. Together, these offer cultural, scenic and culinary experiences.

Brewery and City History

Since 1954, Cervecería Tecate has been part of Tecate’s identity as a Pueblo Mágico. It offers tours of its facilities and beer museum. On a tour, you can learn about the brewing process; afterward, you can enjoy a fresh beer at Jardín Cerveza. Check visiting hours before you go.

The Museo Comunitario Tecate has been active since 1997 and features exhibitions by local and visiting artists, as well as work by students from CECUTEC’s visual arts workshops.

Landscapes and Trails

In the upper part of the city, Parque El Profesor is considered a natural retreat above the town. Its 2.9-kilometer loop trail is surrounded by trees and rock formations and offers panoramic views of the Pueblo Mágico and Cerro Cuchumá. At Parque Miguel Hidalgo, taking a stroll is a popular activity among locals, who come to enjoy the town’s peacefulness and relaxed atmosphere.

The attractions offer different experiences: on a brewery tour, you can learn about the brewing process, while the Museo Comunitario showcases works by artists and students. Outdoors, the 2.9-kilometer loop trail, with its panoramic views, is different from a stroll in Parque Miguel Hidalgo, where peace and a relaxed atmosphere take center stage. This lets you choose between learning about production, visiting exhibitions, and spending time outdoors according to your interests.

Rock Art and Regional Cuisine

In the municipality of Tecate, the El Vallecito archaeological zone comprises 23 groups of rock paintings. Five rock shelters that are open to visitors today are known as El TiburĂłn, El Diablito, El Hombre Enraizado, La Cueva del Indio and Solecitos.

Handmade bread from Tecate is baked in stone ovens and available at local bakeries. Tecate’s cuisine includes dishes that combine Mediterranean cooking methods with ingredients from Baja California, and some restaurants prepare them using a farm-to-table approach. Mejor Pan de Tecate is considered an icon of the city.

An Annual Celebration

The history of the Romería de Verano dates back to 1955; it was celebrated in July and August in front of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Tecate. The traditional celebration brings families and visitors together for live music, regional cuisine, cultural performances and local festivities. If you’d like to plan your trip around this celebration, check the dates for your travel year.
