Vragoli has archaeological connections to the Late Bronze Age, antiquity and the Middle Ages, as well as dated changes from more recent local history. If you are looking for a cultural focus for your trip, you can use these different periods as a guide. To put them into context, it is worth considering the sites, mosque and municipal infrastructure separately. The locations are specific: the Late Bronze Age settlement is on the western edge of the village, the mosque is in the centre, and the extended underpass is at the bridge.

Archaeological Traces in Vragoli

On flat terrain on the right bank of the Drenicë River, on the western edge of Vragoli, lies a Late Bronze Age settlement. A survey by the Kosovo Museum in 1974 found a small number of pottery fragments from the Late Bronze Age there. This point of interest therefore connects a specific landscape location with a dated archaeological find. For travellers interested in archaeology, the precise dating helps distinguish this early settlement site from the ancient and medieval sites.

Pottery fragments and pieces of brick have been found at the ancient settlement of Kumanovk in Vragoli. Unlike the small number of pottery fragments from the Late Bronze Age settlement surveyed in 1974, this site connects pottery and brick finds with an ancient context.

The medieval archaeological layer of Vragoli is represented by glazed vessel fragments in green, orange or mixed colours. Here, too, the material is pottery, but the glaze and colouring characterise the medieval fragments. The archaeological periods can thus be distinguished by their era and specific features of the finds.

Te mulliri in Vragoli is listed as Roman; the site had not been investigated as of 2011.

The Village Centre and Structural Changes

A new mosque was inaugurated in the centre of Vragoli on 5 July 2013. Its exact date and central location set this point of interest apart from the settlement on the western edge: this is an event in more recent local history, rather than archaeological finds. Vragoli’s timeline thus places a dated religious building alongside much older archaeological contexts.

The underpass at the bridge in Vragoli was also extended. The municipality completed the work and installed, among other things, signage and lighting; completion was reported on 9 November 2020. While the mosque marks a precisely dated 2013 event in the centre, this project concerns the underpass at the bridge. Together, the dates illustrate the difference between an event in the village centre and work at the bridge.

The Wider Municipal Context

The tourism profile of Fushë Kosovë Municipality highlights Harilaq Castle as a popular tourist destination. This municipal perspective complements the information about Vragoli: the archaeological sites and structural points of interest are located there, while Harilaq features in the municipality’s tourism profile.
