For a trip to Kendal, you can choose from a range of options: waterfalls and caves, tea plantations, coastal destinations, or places with Javanese architectural and cultural history. The following examples can help you decide what kind of experience you want and tailor your choices to your interests.

Waterfalls, Caves and Coast

Curug Jeglong in Plantungan District consists of five waterfall tiers and a natural pool below. In the pine forest, there are stages, viewpoints and selfie spots; facilities also include toilets, a prayer room and a canteen. Both the waterfall landscape and the visitor facilities shape the site. Facilities may change, so check their current condition before visiting.

Curug Sewu is in Curug Sewu Tourism Village, Patean District. The waterfalls can be reached from the direction of Temanggung, Batang or Semarang. For the drive to Pantai Sendang Sikucing beach in Rowosari District, the type of road is another point to consider: a well-maintained paved road can be used by various vehicles, including tour buses. Road conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Goa Kiskendo in Trayu Village, Singorojo District, offers a different perspective on Kendal’s landscape. The cave contains large rock formations of stalagmites and stalactites. There is also a campsite and a bridge; from the bridge, visitors can view the surrounding hills, river and rice fields. The cave is also associated with a wayang legend about the battle between the monkey armies of Sugriwa and Subali. Geological formations and a storytelling tradition thus come together at a named site.

Also in Rowosari District, Pantai Cahaya is located in Sendang Sikucing Village. Its edutainment offering combines a beach visit, animal encounters and water-park activities. Compared with Pantai Sendang Sikucing, the focus here is not only on the coast, but also on bringing together different types of activities.

Tea Plantations and Other Activities

Kebun Teh Medini in Ngesrep Balong Village, Limbangan District, covers about 386 hectares and lies at an elevation of 2,050 metres above sea level. Visitors usually walk through the tea gardens or pitch a tent at the campsite. Options therefore range from walking through the plantation to camping. Check the campsite’s operating conditions locally before your trip.

Those looking for a different way to get active can consider Santosa Park & Stable in Pasigitan Village, Boja, where visitors can go horseback riding. The facility also has a riding school with a large riding arena and the necessary equipment.

Water-based attractions also differ in what they offer. River Walk Boja has a mini water park. Promas Greenland in Nglimut, Gonoharjo, offers pools with cold and hot water. At Tirto Arum Baru, at Jl. Raya Pantura No. 21, Bugangin, Kendal District, the offer includes boat rides on the lake. You can therefore distinguish between a water park, pools and a boat ride on the lake, rather than treating these activities as equivalent experiences.

Javanese Architectural and Cultural History

Masjid Al-Muttaqin in the heart of Kaliwungu District was first established in 1653 as a place for Islamic preaching. Its ornaments feature pronounced Javanese design elements. The site thus combines a historical religious function with a clearly defined architectural character.

Kampoeng Djowo Sekatul in Limbangan, not far from Semarang, offers a different cultural focus. Joglo-style buildings create a traditional Javanese rural atmosphere from an earlier era. The distinction between these two cultural sites is specific: in Kaliwungu, the focus is on the history of a place of Islamic preaching and its ornaments; in Limbangan, it is on the traditional rural atmosphere and the form of the buildings.
