The spa complex in Bükfürdő covers 14 hectares and has 32 pools and more than 5,200 square metres of water surface. In Bük, historic churches tell the story of different building periods: St Clement’s Parish Church dates back to a Romanesque predecessor, while the Evangelical Church took shape in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Bathing options in Bükfürdő
The sauna world includes, among other things, a devil’s sauna, a tepidarium and a room with ice chips. The visitor centre showcases how the medicinal water formed and emerged, the development leading up to the spa’s opening, and the bathing options available today. This brings both the history of the medicinal water and the present-day spa landscape into focus. As the sauna facilities may change, it is best to check their current status before your visit.
Churches, castle and farmhouse
The Gothic St Clement’s Parish Church was created in 1408 by rebuilding a 13th-century Romanesque church. Romanesque and Gothic details come together inside. Some of the fragmentary wall paintings are medieval; another part is classified as Baroque work from the 16th century. The church tower was built in the Baroque style in 1658.
The Evangelical Church was consecrated during Advent in 1785 as a late Baroque church without a tower. Its Neoclassical tower was added in 1826. The Szapáry Castle complex also has a long building history: it originated as a fortified manor house from the 16th century and was remodelled in the early Baroque style in 1696 by István Nagy of Felsőbüki. The castle is privately owned and not open to visitors; certain parts can be seen from the outside. Check access status again before planning a visit.
The Koczán House is the last thatched, hipped-roof farmhouse with clay walls in the region. It currently houses a craft workshop, Easter egg painting activities, and various programmes for children and families.
