Köcsk consists of Nagyköcsk and Kisköcsk. The Csikászó stream flows between the two districts toward Kodó. The names of local chapels and a memorial also refer to the districts. Together with traces of a former church and a manor house, they offer a glimpse into various chapters of local history.

School Chapels and Local History

The Kisköcski iskolakápolna is a school chapel in Köcsk on Hunyadi utca. The Nagyköcski iskolakápolna is at 35 Kossuth Lajos utca and is also a school chapel. Each of the two buildings has its own address and name. For local orientation, they complement Köcsk’s division into Nagyköcsk and Kisköcsk with specific religious sites.

An older trace leads to Köcsk cemetery: the foundations of a former church dedicated to Saint George were found there. It was first mentioned in a document in 1289; the church was destroyed during the Ottoman period. It was probably built by the Köcski family. It stood in the eastern part of Nagyköcsk, near the present-day cemetery. The date, the presumed founder, and the discovery of the foundations belong to different aspects of its history.

Memorial and Historic Buildings

The Nagyköcski hősi emlékmű lists the names of nine people who fell in the First World War. A plaque added later names six victims of the Second World War and fascism. The memorial includes a relief bearing a Honvéd symbol. It was created by Ráday Ignác, a stonemason from Celldömölk. Its names, relief, and creator offer different ways to understand the memorial: it commemorates the fallen and also documents a local work of stonemasonry.

Another historic building story connects Köcsk with the Ajkay–Hetthéssy manor house. It was probably built in the 1880s by Ajkay Dénes in the Historicist style, also known as eclecticism. The cautious qualification of the presumed construction date and builder is part of the received description of the building.

Landscape and Themes in the Wider Destination of Eisenburg

Those who want to explore the wider region as well as local history will find different thematic highlights in the broader destination of Eisenburg. The Írottkő Nature Park lies in the northwestern part of Vas County. It includes the entire 4,303-hectare Kőszeg Landscape Protection Area. This regional perspective puts protected landscapes at the center and complements Köcsk’s local historical themes with a natural setting.

The themed routes in Vas County also offer a variety of highlights. The Termál Kerékpáros Túraút leads to five spa complexes and combines cycling with visits to architectural and natural attractions, as well as other spas. The Vulkán Tour leads to Kis-Somlyó, Ság-hegy, and Belső-hegy. The destinations described can be distinguished by interest: one route focuses on a combination of cycling and spas, while the other takes visitors to three named hills.

Eisenburg also offers a wider range of cultural history themes. The Vasi Skanzen presents the rural way of life and folk architecture of Vas County from the past two centuries. Since opening in 1973, it has saved and rebuilt 43 buildings from 27 settlements. The Nádasdy Ferenc Museum displays art and cultural history objects from the castles and manor houses of the county. Its offerings also include an exhibition on the history of the Hussars, described as unique in Hungary.
