Hiking trails, memorial sites and churches give Kercaszomor a varied profile for planning a trip. The trail descriptions range from a 3 km loop to named routes with designated sections. There are also historical points of interest and places with explicitly restricted access. If you are looking for accommodation, these differences can help you choose Kercaszomor as a destination based on your interests.

Hiking Trails and Route Choices

Together, the Szomoróci tanösvény and the Fürgecselle tanösvény form a 3 km loop that can be walked; a substantial part of it can also be driven. The Fürgecselle tanösvény introduces the plant life along the Kerca stream and in meadows and forests, and also covers the rich butterfly fauna. The 3 km refers to the combined loop; the Fürgecselle tanösvény focuses on plant life and the rich butterfly fauna.

The Rockenbauer Pál Dél-Dunántúli Kéktúra comes from Bajánsenye to Kercaszomor, passes over Öreg-hegy and reaches the settlement’s inner area. From there, it continues via Pusztatemető towards Magyarszombatfa. If you include this route in your plans, check current information about trail conditions, as they may change.

The Via Sancti Martini, the Szent Márton Gyalogos Túraút, also passes through Kercaszomor. The distance from Kercaszomor to the state border is listed as 11 km; from the border to the Szent Márton Church in Domonkosfa/Domanjševci, there are a further 3 km. These figures refer to two consecutive sections. They can therefore be distinguished from the 3 km loop of the Szomoróci and Fürgecselle tanösvény. Check the latest route information before travelling.

Memorial Sites and Architectural History

At the starting point of the Szomoróci tanösvény are a memorial column to Tisza István and the linden trees dedicated to him. There is also an oak tree planted in honour of Rankay József. These memorials are thus directly connected to the starting point of the nature trail and can be included when exploring this route.

A few sökfa, also known as süvegfa, can still be seen in the northern part of the Szomoróc cemetery. These grave markers are dedicated to the Reformed people of Őrség; their condition may change over time. The Reformed bell tower of Szomoróc, built in 1877, is also listed as a stop on a nature trail.

The Church of St. Wenceslas is in Pusztatemető and can only be reached on foot. A 1208 boundary survey of the Felsőlendva estate mentions the church as well as the village of the guards named Kurcite (Kerca). The mention in the 1208 boundary survey gives the church an early historical reference.

Another architectural monument is the Roman Catholic church, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and completed in 1834. At Malomkert, in the valley of the Kerca stream, there is a rain shelter and a fire pit. The selection therefore includes not only churches and memorial sites but also a place with specifically named visitor facilities.
