Water Sports in Ialysós

Windsurfing and jet skiing are listed at three locations in Ialysós. The number and operating status of providers may change. Offerings vary by activity and experience: beginners can consider lessons, while experienced participants can rent equipment; jet skiing is listed among the activities available in Ialysós.

Filerimos: Acropolis, Monastery and Path

The green hill of Filerimos is home to the Acropolis of Ialysos, ancient ruins and the Monastery of the Virgin Mary. The ruins of the ancient city lie on the mountain, just outside the modern town. An uphill path with 33 stone steps leads to the Acropolis of Ialysos and the Monastery of Our Lady of Filerimos. If you plan to take this path, allow for the uphill climb and steps; check current accessibility in advance if needed.

Near Trianda is Agios Georgios tou Hostou, a small, single-storey underground Byzantine church. Its frescoes depict the Knights in the 14th and 15th centuries. The Calvary corridor at Panagia Filerimou begins opposite the entrance, outside the enclosure. Along one side are twelve depictions of the Passion of Christ, mounted on pedestals.

The cultural themes are distinct: the Acropolis and ruins evoke the ancient city, the church’s frescoes provide a distinctive visual focus, and the corridor depicts the Passion of Christ. Archaeological remains, painting and religious imagery can therefore be considered as separate points of interest.

Ialysos Beach: Coast and Beach Sections

The water at Ialysos Beach is clear and blue; the beach is made up of sand and pebbles. So if you’re considering the beach surface when choosing where to go, keep both materials in mind rather than expecting an entirely sandy shore. Some sections are reserved for guests of the adjacent hotel. These conditions may change; check in advance which rules currently apply. The character of the beach and how its sections may be used are two separate points to consider: one concerns the water and surface, the other the restrictions that apply to individual areas.
