For a trip to Kirinthos, it helps to distinguish between three areas: the archaeological site at Kastri in the town, the ancient city with its ruins at the nearby Krya Vrisi beach, and cultural sites in the wider travel area. This brings archaeological connections and coastal scenery together without attributing regional destinations to the town itself.

Archaeology between town and coast

Archaeological excavations and research are being carried out at Kastri (Loutsas) in Kirinthos, focusing on antiquities previously identified on the surface there. The hill is recognized as an archaeological site. The earlier surface finds provide the basis for research at Kastri. This places the archaeological focus within the town on a clearly identified hill.

The ancient city of Kirinthos is one of Euboea’s most important cities. Ruins of its acropolis lie on the hill at the right-hand end of Krya Vrisi beach. For those interested in culture, the two archaeological points of interest differ in their descriptions: at Kastri, the recognized site and the research are central; at the ancient city, it is the acropolis ruins on the beach. One archaeological site is therefore in the town, while the other is in the nearby coastal area.

Krya Vrisi: beach and ancient city

The extensive sandy beach of Krya Vrisi lies next to the ruins of the ancient city. According to a description published in 2014, Krya Vrisi is among the larger beaches by area in the municipality of Mantoudi–Limni–Agia Anna; the same description calls it a southern extension of Agia Anna beach. These two classifications use different criteria: the area comparison measures Krya Vrisi against the municipality’s beaches, while the southern extension describes its coastal relationship to Agia Anna. This keeps the municipal size comparison separate from the coastal connection.

Culture in the wider travel area

Two other places in the wider travel area add to its cultural character. Kleisoura Castle is in the hard-to-reach area of Derveni; the Museum of Asia Minor Culture is in Prokopi. These two regional points of interest have different focuses: in Derveni, it is the castle in a hard-to-reach location; in Prokopi, it is the Museum of Asia Minor Culture. Together with Kastri and Krya Vrisi, they extend the cultural picture beyond Kirinthos.

Accommodation search tips

This spatial layout can help when choosing a destination or accommodation: Kastri is in Kirinthos, Krya Vrisi is nearby, and Kleisoura and the museum are in the wider travel area. If you are mainly interested in archaeology, you can take into account the difference between the recognized site at Kastri and the acropolis ruins of the ancient city. For a coastal setting, Krya Vrisi is the named beach; for broader cultural interests, the regional destinations are also an option. Kirinthos can therefore be the main destination, with the other points of interest adding regional context.
