Weddelbrook can be explored from different angles: at the mill pond in the town centre, along named cycling routes, and on walks through woodland and moorland. There is also the history of a former grain mill right beside the pond. This gives you a choice of different focal points for your stay: water, outdoor activity and local history.

At the Mill Pond: Paths, Bathing Area and Restaurant

The mill pond in the centre of Weddelbrook can be circled along a sandy path and a lit footpath. On the shore are a bathing area and the Seeterrassen restaurant. This brings several interests together in one place: a walk by the water, a spot for swimming and a restaurant visit. If you would like to get to know Weddelbrook through its pond, this is a specific place to start, without limiting your visit to a single route. The use of local leisure facilities and access conditions may change, so check the current conditions before your visit.

Cycling Routes in Different Directions

Several destinations and routes are named for cycling trips: the route towards Bissenmoor and Bad Bramstedt goes via Rehweg, while the route towards Mönkloh goes via Vogelzunge and Wiebüschenweg. Another route passes through Liethholz to Förden-Barl. You can distinguish these options by their respective directions and the named roads. No specific route length or journey time is stated; before setting off, check local signage and route conditions.

Liethholz and Grootmoor: Woodland and Raised Bog

Liethholz offers walks through beech woodland along a ridge. From there, you can look out over the surrounding area. This woodland walk has a different focus from the circuit around the mill pond: here, beech trees and the ridge shape the landscape, while at the pond the water and the facilities on its shore take centre stage. Liethholz is also part of the named cycling route to Förden-Barl.

Nearby Grootmoor adds another type of landscape. It lies between Weddelbrook, Lentföhrden and Heidmoor and features typical raised-bog scenery. The area is accessible via agricultural tracks, whose condition can vary. If you plan to visit this landscape, take the local track conditions into account. Beech woodland on a ridge and moorland reached by agricultural tracks thus offer two different nature experiences in the area around Weddelbrook.

The Former Mill at the Mill Pond

Weddelbrook’s former grain mill stands right beside the mill pond. It was built after a fire in 1868 and operated until 1994. Today it is a protected historic building used as a private residence. The sequence of events makes the building’s transformation tangible: mill operations gave way to its current residential use. Together with its location by the pond, it connects local history with one of Weddelbrook’s central landscape features.

In the Wider Segeberg Destination

In the wider Segeberg destination, hiking trails and paths range from longer routes to short walks. Guided hikes and nature tours offer insights into the local flora and fauna. One specific example is Eekholt Wildlife Park, on the northern edge of Segeberger Forst between Bad Bramstedt and Bad Segeberg, set in the Osterau landscape. Across 67 hectares, visitors can observe more than 700 animals from 100 species. Animal numbers may change; check them before your visit.

The Karl May Festival also belongs to the wider Segeberg destination. It takes place every summer at the open-air theatre at the foot of Bad Segeberg’s Kalkberg; the theatre has room for up to 7,700 spectators per performance. As this is an annual event, check the programme for the relevant year. Woodland and nature, wildlife watching and a summer stage event thus offer further interests that are explicitly part of the wider Segeberg destination.
