A 7.67-kilometre Quaal–Wardersee circular walk is located in Rohlstorf and leads mainly along nature trails around Wardersee. Highlights include the Warder bathing area, Warder Church, the Lindenallee and fields. The route thus combines lakeside scenery with notable local landmarks.

Wardersee and its lakeside landscape

Rohlstorf’s villages stretch along the western shore of Wardersee. The lake covers 360 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of 10.8 metres. Its extensive floodplains also form a nationally significant resting area for migratory birds. Wardersee therefore has ecological importance as well as being part of the local landscape. The lakeside landscape and the resting area are different aspects of the same natural environment.

Warder Church: history and significance

The late Romanesque fieldstone church dates back to the 12th century; it was first mentioned around 1198, and its construction dates to around 1200. In the 19th century, the round fieldstone tower was encased in a square form. The church is a patronage church of Gut Rohlstorf and served Warder and many surrounding villages as a spiritual centre. Its history thus combines an early fieldstone church with a later alteration to the tower.

Parking is available close to the entrance to Warder Church. As parking arrangements may change, please check before your visit. The church is also one of the highlights of the Quaal–Wardersee circular route.

Hiking and swimming in Rohlstorf

Woodland surrounds Rohlstorf near Wardersee and Klüthsee. Swimming in the lake is also among the recreational activities in Rohlstorf. This offers a choice of different activities: a circular walk on nature trails or swimming in the lake. The circular walk is 7.67 kilometres long. Visitors considering the area’s nature-related attractions can therefore choose between walking the trail and spending time by the water.
