Mönkloh offers two distinct focal points for a stay: learning about nature in the forest and a small ecumenical chapel. The Hasselbusch Forest Nature and Adventure Trail features themed stations and hands-on activities, while the Forest Chapel in Mönkloh combines a brick-built structure, ecumenical use and a rest stop for cyclists. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, deciding what you would like to focus on may help: are you more interested in nature topics presented at stations, or in the chapel’s architecture and use?

The Hasselbusch Forest Nature and Adventure Trail

The Hasselbusch Forest Nature and Adventure Trail in Mönkloh offers an experience of nature, with stations on wildlife, plants, tree species, soil organisms and forest ecology. Interactive features invite visitors to join in and complement the information provided at the stations. The themes range from individual species and tree forms to the interconnections within the forest, giving visitors a chance to explore several aspects of this habitat.

The peaceful woodland setting is well suited to family outings, school trips and nature walks. If you like to choose an outing based on a particular nature topic, you will find more than just a trail here: the stations also offer ideas and information.

The Forest Chapel in Mönkloh

The Forest Chapel in Mönkloh is a small ecumenical chapel in Hasselbusch, built of brick and featuring a copper roof and bell tower. It is consecrated for ecumenical use; an ecumenical service is held here every year on 3 October. As of November 2025, the chapel had also been used for weddings, baptisms and anniversary celebrations. Cyclists use it as a place to stop and rest.

There are no set opening hours; the chapel is generally open during the day. If you plan to make a special trip there, confirm that it will be open beforehand. If you are planning your trip around the service on 3 October, check in advance whether it is taking place as scheduled.
