Klein Gladebrügge lies on the edge of the Trave Valley in a varied hedgerow landscape; the Trave forms the municipal boundary to the west. Cycling, local history and village culture are the main themes in the area. The wider Segeberg travel destination offers additional nature and culture themes.
Cycling and Local History
A local circular cycling route of about 24 km passes through Klein Gladebrügge. Along the way, it goes past Gieselteich and the village oak, then continues to Traventhal. Its approximate length and named points along the way make the route a distinct cycling option for trip planning. Check the route locally again before setting off.
The Rantzaustein stands on the road from Klein Gladebrügge to Traventhal. Its inscription, dating from 1575, commemorates the Danish King Frederick II and Heinrich Rantzau. Archaeological traces include excavated Stone Age graves and the remains of the Slavic Ohlenborg, which was destroyed around 900 AD. The inscription and the excavation finds point to different periods in local history.
Village Culture and Swimming Area
The village cultural program includes four cultural events each year, including concerts, readings and lectures. Individual dates may change. If you want to plan your visit around an event, check the latest dates before travelling.
A small, unsupervised swimming area lies at the entrance to Klein Gladebrügge, about 2 km southeast of Bad Segeberg town centre. Check access and swimming conditions before using it. This means swimming can be planned separately from the cycling tour.
In the Wider Segeberg Travel Destination
Forests and hiking are a distinct focus there. Segeberger Forst covers 40 square kilometres and offers a wooded setting for nature-based outings. Hiking trails and paths in the Segeberg district range from longer tours to short walks. Guided hikes and nature tours offer insights into the local flora and fauna.
At Wildpark Eekholt, visitors can observe more than 700 animals from 100 species across 67 hectares. These figures may change; check the latest animal and species counts before visiting.
Cultural attractions in the wider Segeberg travel destination also vary in their time frame. The Karl May Games take place every summer at the open-air theatre at the foot of Bad Segeberg’s Kalkberg; the theatre can accommodate up to 7,700 spectators per performance. Check the dates for your year of travel. By contrast, the Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus Museum focuses on the history of a house: it presents the building and residents’ history of the house dating from 1541, as well as an exhibition on Segeberg’s 800-year development. St. Mary’s Church in Bad Segeberg was built from fired clay bricks in 1156. It was the first brick church of its kind north of the Elbe and the first basilica with a vaulted ceiling.
For planning purposes, it is helpful to distinguish clearly between the two: the cycling route and local history are specific to Klein Gladebrügge, while the forest, hiking opportunities and cultural attractions belong to the wider Segeberg travel destination.
