A natural beach with sandy, stony and grassy sections defines Steinberghaff. The Baltic Sea Cycle Route runs right along the coast, and Gelting Bay offers a range of water sports. If you are looking for accommodation for a stay on the Baltic Sea, it helps to consider what matters most to you: the beach, outdoor activities on land or water sports.
Beach and scenery by the water
Steinberghaff beach is natural, with sandy, stony and grassy sections. Its shoreline is therefore not sandy throughout: stones and grass are also part of the beach’s character. There is a designated area for swimmers. The beach is free to access but is not supervised by the DLRG.
At Steinberghaff, the forest reaches right down to the water. A very old oak is considered a local landmark by many. At Steinberger Haff, two stones are regarded as the last witnesses to a severe storm surge along the coast. So, alongside its natural features, you will also find a historical point of interest on the Haff.
Water sports in Gelting Bay
Gelting Bay is popular for sailing, diving, surfing, water skiing and motorboating. Yachtclub Steinberghaff e.V. is located on the Flensburg Outer Fjord in Gelting Bay. This water sports area offers plenty of space, strong winds, close proximity to Denmark and access to the open Baltic Sea.
The sailing area of Seglergemeinschaft Steinberghaff e.V. is one of the most beautiful sailing areas in northern Germany and appeals to dinghy sailors as well as fans of “large yachts.” The beach and water sports offer different ways to shape a stay in the bay.
Explore by bike or on foot
The Baltic Sea Cycle Route runs right along the coast at Steinberghaff. For a different perspective, try the “Secluded Beaches around Norgaardholz” walk: it passes through the small villages of Norgaardholz and Steinbergholz and returns to the coast along the edge of Fischerholz forest. While the cycle route follows the coast, the walk also takes in the villages and the edge of the forest.
The walk passes Fischerkrog at Steinberghaff campsite. You can stop there for a fish sandwich before the final few kilometres. As the food on offer may change, it is best to check in advance. Steinberghaff campsite is right on the natural Baltic Sea beach in Gelting Bay, with walking and cycling routes passing by. Its facilities include a small playground, a sauna, a fitness room and a small restaurant.
Choose the right focus for your stay
If you want to focus more on the water during your stay, you can weigh up the natural beach against the water sports available in Gelting Bay. Consider which of these options matters most for your trip, and search accordingly.
