Rabenkirchen-Faulück combines architectural and art history with golf and activities on the Schlei. This gives you a range of options when planning your trip: St. Mary’s Church and rural heritage, Stenerberg Golf Course, or swimming and water sports at the bathing area.

St. Mary’s Church: Architectural and Art History

St. Mary’s Church in Rabenkirchen contains Romanesque fieldstone masonry dating from the late 12th century. The ground floor of the tower room houses paintings from the first third of the 17th century: they depict large apostles in richly decorated late Renaissance frames. The paintings are very rare evidence of the flourishing of art in the Schleswig region at the beginning of the 17th century.

The pulpit and organ also offer insight into the church’s art history. Berend Cornellissen carved the pulpit in Husum in 1637. The organ was built in 1697, probably by Matthias Hansen. Together with the Romanesque masonry and the tower paintings, these works represent different phases of architecture and art.

Rural Domestic Culture in Karschau

The protected three-sided farmstead at Karschau 10 in Rabenkirchen-Faulück offers another perspective on local history. The complex is right next to the Schlei. Its house dates from around 1880; the farmstead was built in the last quarter of the 19th century. As an example of rural domestic culture, it illustrates developments from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Sacred art and rural architecture thus stand side by side as distinct historical themes.

Stenerberg Golf Course

Stenerberg Golf Course is a 9-hole course with a par of 70. It measures 5,174 metres from the yellow tees for men. The facility includes a partially covered driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a 6-hole short course. The course details clearly distinguish between the regular 9-hole course and the shorter facility.

Green fees are available to visitors, and there is no need to reserve a tee time. Check the course details, practice facilities and visitor policies before you travel.

Bathing Area on the Schlei

The Rabenkirchen-Faulück bathing area is on the Schlei and is used for swimming. There is a slipway, and the bathing area is also suitable for launching a stand-up paddleboard. It is not supervised by the DLRG. Before visiting, check the local conditions for access to the water and supervision.

There is a kiosk and a restaurant at the campsite opposite the bathing area. If you plan to use these facilities, check their opening hours in advance. Swimming, SUP and boat access are different ways to enjoy the water; the slipway is a separate facility at the bathing area.

Schleswig-Flensburg: The Wider Schlei Region

For a broader perspective, explore Schleswig-Flensburg as a travel destination. In Schlei Nature Park, the landscape is shaped by rolling hills, forests, hedgerows, rapeseed and grain fields, sandy beaches and swimming coves. The Schlei’s brackish-water areas provide a habitat for numerous endangered bird species.

One cycling route in the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination is the 25-kilometre SchleiUferTörn. The circular route runs around the central part of the Schlei and starts in Arnis. Elsewhere in the Schlei region, bridges and ferries provide crossings over the Schlei. If you plan to cross, check operating times before setting out.
