Rabenholz lies two kilometres south of Gelting on district road 58 towards Kappeln. The village centre is characterised by a linear settlement along the road; Gut Priesholz is on the southeastern edge of the municipality. The location, settlement pattern and estate offer different points of reference for finding your way. Together, they provide a sense of the area before you explore the Bee Route and the Angeln landscape.

Walking the Bee Route

The Bee Route passes through Rabenholz and is marked with signs bearing a bee symbol. Check the signs on site before setting out. The route crosses a hilly landscape typical of Angeln, with hedgerows and small woods. From a hill, you can enjoy a view of Gelting Bay; vegetation and weather may affect the view. The markers and the viewpoint serve different purposes: the bee symbols indicate the route, while the view from the hill depends on local conditions.

Gut Priesholz and the Red Cottage

Gut Priesholz lies on the southeastern edge of the municipality. The estate offers horse stalls and access to a paddock and pasture. As the availability of these facilities may change, ask about them directly before making plans. The estate includes the Red Cottage, a historic 19th-century building used as holiday accommodation. If you are considering the cottage as a place to stay, confirm its current use and availability before booking. This helps distinguish the accommodation from the estate’s other features: the Red Cottage is identified as holiday accommodation, while the horse stalls and paddock and pasture access are features of the estate.

Schleswig-Flensburg: Nature and history

In the wider destination of Schleswig-Flensburg, Geltinger Birk is a distinct natural area. At 773 hectares, it is the largest nature reserve in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. Its landscape includes low dunes, marshland or heathland, bogs and open woodland. This sets it apart from the hilly Bee Route, with its hedgerows and small woods: open areas, bogs and sparse woodland shape the landscape of the Birk. A surfaced walking and cycling path runs there, mostly along the dike. Explore the nature reserve only on designated paths. Check the current regulations and the route on site before visiting.

Gelting Bay also offers its own regional landscape perspective: here, the hilly Angeln landscape, yellow rapeseed fields and long beaches meet. Cycling routes in Gelting Bay follow stretches of coastline and offer views towards Denmark. This differs from the Bee Route, which passes through Rabenholz and is characterised by hedgerows and small woods. In choosing between them, the distinction is: the Bee Route is a specific route through the village, while the regional cycling routes take in coastal stretches and views towards Denmark.

The Schleswig-Flensburg district also has historical sites: Haithabu and the Danevirke have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since June 2018. The Idstedt Memorial and Museum provide information about German-Danish history surrounding the uprising of 1848 and the Battle of Idstedt. This historical perspective complements the nature and landscape themes of the wider destination.
