In Olpenitz, you can combine water sports, coastal scenery and maritime history in different ways. At the OstseeResort, you can rent SUP boards for your own explorations; the canoe launch next to the Schleimünde campsite in Olpenitz-Dorf provides access to the Schlei. Fishing trips start from the home port of OstseeResort Port Olpenitz at the mouth of the Schlei and head out onto the Baltic Sea and the Schlei. On land, there is also a bathing cove and a 53.1-kilometre cycling loop. Which of these options suits your stay depends on whether you want to get out on the water yourself, plan a specific route or learn about the history of the harbour.

SUP, Canoeing and Fishing Trips

SUP boards can be rented at OstseeResort Olpenitz for independent exploration. You can book online or in person. As availability depends on the season and weather, check before your trip. The canoe launch next to the Schleimünde campsite in Olpenitz-Dorf provides access to the Schlei. Fishing trips start from the home port of OstseeResort Port Olpenitz at the mouth of the Schlei and head out onto the Baltic Sea and the Schlei. The fishing trips therefore specify both their departure point and the waters they cover; check availability with the operator before making plans around them.

Bathing Cove and Nature

The gently sloping bathing cove at OstseeResort Olpenitz is suitable for families with children and relaxing days at the beach. It is used for walking, building sandcastles, stand-up paddleboarding and sports classes. It can only be reached on foot or by bicycle—a key point to bear in mind when planning a beach visit into your day.

The Schleimündung nature reserve lies near Olpenitz, next to the Schleidamm. It is not accessible from OstseeResort Olpenitz. The Schleimünde lighthouse is also nearby. Since 1871, it has served as a landfall and navigation light for ships entering the mouth of the Schlei from the Baltic Sea. Harbour porpoises are occasionally sighted at the OstseeResort, so an encounter cannot be reliably planned.

Cycling Route and Excursion Cruise

The “Runde von Schönhagen” cycling loop is 53.1 kilometres long, starts and ends at OstseeResort Olpenitz, and runs mostly along paved paths. It connects the museum harbour and harbour of Kappeln, Gut Buckhagen, cycle paths along the Schlei, Kronsgaard Beach, the fishing village of Maasholm and the Schlei Bridge in Kappeln. Its total length makes the loop a full activity in its own right, which you can plan around other things to do. The “Steilküste Schönhagen” hike also starts in Olpenitz.

Near Olpenitz, the Schlei Princess excursion cruise runs from Kappeln via Maasholm to the pilot island of Schleimünde. It includes a 30-minute shore visit there. Check the timetable before your trip if you would like to plan this cruise.

Manor House, Harbour and Leisure Activities

Gut Olpenitz includes a manor house dating from 1618 and is available as a venue for weddings and events. The construction history of the Olpenitz naval harbour dates back to 1959–1964: part of the Schleinoor was cut off from the Schlei and connected to the Baltic Sea by a new entrance.

There are also different kinds of leisure activities. Adventure Golf Olpenitz at the OstseeResort has 18 maritime and region-themed obstacles. Pit Pat Olpenitz is an outdoor obstacle billiards game right on the Baltic Sea, with 18 tables. Check the opening details for both activities before your visit.
