Langstedt has a distinctive connection to the Treene: at the launch point, the river is still narrow and winding for paddlers, and the village lies on the 25-kilometre Treene Circular Route. Older architecture that you can see in Langstedt, as well as the cuisine and rooms at Schröders Gasthaus, add other local attractions to the activities on the water and on the bike.

The Treene landscape and historic architecture

In the wider Schleswig-Flensburg destination, the Treene lowlands stretch from Eggebek/Langstedt to Treia; the river is considered largely natural in this area. East of the lowlands, Büschauer Holz lies between Langstedt and Hünning. This gives you two distinct landscape features: the lowlands shaped by the Treene and the woodland to the east. You can also see older architecture in Langstedt. It offers a different way to experience the village than the riverside landscape, adding the built character of the village to your impression of the surroundings.

Cycling the Treene Circular Route

The Treene Circular Route is a 25 km cycling loop. It passes through woods, meadows and fields and reaches the Treene repeatedly; Langstedt lies along the route. Along the way, the route uses farm tracks, concrete wheel tracks, asphalt, lightly trafficked roads and farm roads. This mix makes the route more specific than a simple distance figure: the surfaces vary, and the route comes alongside the Treene several times. The tour is currently not signposted. Plan your navigation before setting out and check the intended route before you ride. For planning your day, consider both the 25 kilometres and the different surfaces and navigation requirements.

Paddling and river conditions

At the Langstedt launch point, the Treene is still narrow and winding for paddlers. When water levels are low, you may need to portage your boat at the Langstedt railway bridge. The planning considerations therefore differ between the two activities: for the cycling loop, take account of the lack of signs and the changing surfaces; for paddling, the water level may be decisive for passing the bridge. If you are choosing between cycling and being on the water, you can take these specific conditions into account rather than comparing the activities only by length.

Toilet and shower at the Langstedt launch point

Canoeists and motorhome guests using nearby pitches have access to a free public toilet at the Langstedt launch point during the day. For access to the toilet at night and to the shower, you can get the key from Gasthaus Langstedt on the opposite side of the road. Access therefore depends on the time of day: the toilet is freely accessible during the day, while at night you need to get the key from the inn. If you plan to use these facilities, check locally whether they are currently available, as visitor facilities can change.

Eating and accommodation

Schröders Gasthaus serves modern German cuisine with BBQ influences, focusing on regional and seasonal ingredients. It also offers an in-house grill and a cookery school. This adds a dining option to the activities on the river and the cycling route. As food and drink offerings can change, contact the establishment directly before visiting to confirm what is currently available.

For overnight stays, Schröders Gasthaus offers modern rooms with box-spring beds, Wi-Fi and private bathrooms. The rooms and dining options described here are at the same establishment, while activities in the village require separate decisions about cycling or water-based plans.
