The castle, collections and forest museum
Glücksburg Castle was built from 1582 to 1587 on the orders of Duke John (Hans) the Younger. It opened to the public as a museum in 1923. The fjord, beach and hiking
The Hanseatic Yacht School in Glücksburg is located directly on the Flensburg Fjord and within sight of the Danish coast. It combines practical sailing experience with theoretical instruction. The municipal beach area at Sandwig offers swimming, long walks, play facilities for families, stand-up paddleboards for hire, SUP courses and events. There are places to eat along the promenade, and beach chairs are also available to rent.
There are different ways to enjoy the beach and longer coastal walks: Sandwig brings together swimming and beach activities, while the Fördesteig, a coastal hiking trail more than 95 kilometres long, passes through Glücksburg. Those interested in swimming or a walk can consider Sandwig; the Fördesteig offers a regional option for hiking enthusiasts.
Thermal baths, golf and astronomy
The facilities at the Fördeland Therme include a children’s area with a lighthouse slide and paddling pool, a 25-metre sports pool, and five saunas ranging from a steam sauna to a fire sauna. As facilities may change, check before visiting whether these amenities are currently available.
The Förde Golf Club Glücksburg has an 18-hole course with views of the Flensburg Fjord. If you are planning a round of golf, it is a good idea to check the current course layout, as it may change.
